In Japan, a recent certification scandal involving Toyota, Mazda, Honda, and Suzuki led to government raids and the suspension of shipments for certain models. Despite the severity of the scandal, the effect on their daily operations and customers seems minimal.
This situation arose after a government order was issued following the discovery of fraud at Toyota affiliates. The government instructed nearly 90 manufacturers to review their testing procedures, increasing challenges for Japan's automakers and Toyota. Despite these ongoing issues, their shares have risen in 2024, and no safety warnings or recalls have been issued in this latest development.

Toyota's head office apologized for the inconvenience caused to consumers, assuring that these findings would not impact the safety of cars already on the road.
Mazda acknowledged improperly modifying vehicles and altering engine tunes, but authorities confirmed that production models still meet all essential safety standards.
Honda was accused of providing incorrect noise test results for 22 models. Suzuki submitted inaccurate braking test results for the Alto hatchback sold overseas, revealing that the actual stopping distance was longer than reported.

Yamaha faced allegations of submitting incorrect horn tests for two models and false noise tests for one bike. Following Toyota's admission of test cheating, Japanese authorities have collaborated with these five companies.
