Unveiled on May 24 at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, BMW's Skytop concept might enter limited production if wealthy buyers show enough interest. This Targa-top convertible, which is based on the M8, features an exterior design inspired by the Z8 and 503 models, especially the former, serving as a prototype for possible production.
At the event, BMW's design director suggested that the Skytop Concept might be produced in limited numbers, akin to the 3.0 CSL. BMW M CEO Frank van Meel described it as an experiment, emphasizing that production would depend on strong demand.
BMW Group's design chief mentioned that they might produce around 20 to 25 units of the Skytop, driven mainly by the high market value of used Z8s. While there were previous indications that the Z4-based Concept Touring Coupe would see limited production, this plan did not come to fruition.

The Skytop concept features a unique body design with a more refined kidney grille than standard BMWs. Its smooth lines flow to the rear, complemented by a subtle ducktail spoiler.
Built on the M8 Competition Cabriolet framework, the Skytop features a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, generating around 460 kW of power and 750 Nm of torque. The power is delivered to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Speculation suggests that production could start in late 2025 or 2026, highlighting BMW's willingness to respond to customer demand for innovative projects.
