BYD introduces its first-ever "new energy" pickup truck, combining power and eco-friendliness.
The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model boasts a driving range of 1,000km.
Designed with a boxy silhouette and spacious dual-cab configuration.
Targeting global markets like Australia, South Africa, and Southeast Asia.
Expected debut at the Beijing Auto Show with a potential launch in 2024.
The Chinese EV leader, BYD, surprised the automotive world by unveiling its inaugural electric pickup truck. This debut marks a significant shift in the pickup truck market, presenting a compelling and environmentally friendly option compared to traditional fuel-powered models.

Leaked pictures show a square-shaped truck with a typical pickup truck design. The BYD pickup seems to have two rows of seats, offering plenty of space for passengers and cargo.
While the camouflage obscures specific design features, we anticipate a contemporary and possibly bold appearance consistent with BYD's design principles. Notable design elements observed include:
BYD has not yet revealed details about the interior of the pickup, but it seems to draw inspiration from the BYD Leopard 5. Anticipate a host of features in the new BYD pickup, potentially including a sizable touchscreen infotainment system.
The BYD pickup is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) engineered for both power and fuel efficiency. It utilizes a blend of a gasoline engine and electric motors to achieve a remarkable overall driving range of 1,000km.
Although the precise engine specifications are not officially confirmed, speculations are indicating a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine collaborating with dual electric motors in the upcoming BYD pickup. Moreover, the plug-in hybrid system is said to offer an electric-only driving range of approximately 100km.

BYD has not disclosed the precise measurements of its new pickup, but it's expected to be comparable in size to the Toyota Hilux. However, what sets it apart is its advanced plug-in hybrid system, a departure from the conventional gasoline engines found in the Hilux. Furthermore, BYD may also introduce an all-electric variant of the pickup, aiming to compete with models like the Ford F-150 Lightning, Hummer EV, Rivian R1T, and Tesla Cybertruck.
BYD aims to tap into the worldwide market with its pickup truck, focusing on regions such as Australia, South Africa, and Southeast Asia. Although the official release date is still unknown, indications are promising. The vehicle is anticipated to debut at the Beijing Auto Show, hinting at a possible launch in 2024, although BYD has not confirmed the precise timeline.
BYD's upcoming pickup truck marks the company's entry into the competitive global market, targeting regions like Australia, South Africa, and Southeast Asia. While the exact launch date remains undisclosed, the vehicle's anticipated debut at the Beijing Auto Show suggests a potential release in 2024. With its plug-in hybrid powertrain and potential for a pure EV version, BYD aims to rival established players like Toyota Hilux and compete with upcoming electric pickups from major automakers.
