Audi used the stage of Monterey Car Week to introduce American audiences to its new halo model, the Nuvolari, marking the plug-in hybrid supercar's first appearance on U.S. soil. The reveal came just weeks after the car's global unveiling at the Monaco Grand Prix, and it arrives as Audi's most powerful and fastest production car to date.

The Nuvolari is built around Audi's first high-performance plug-in hybrid powertrain, producing a combined 987 horsepower (1,001 PS) and a top speed exceeding 217 mph (350 km/h). Underpinning the car is a newly engineered Audi Space Frame wrapped in a full carbon-fiber body, with active aerodynamics and quattro predictive ride rounding out a package designed to push the brand into a segment it has never occupied before.
Production will be capped at just 499 units worldwide, cementing the Nuvolari's status as a collector's piece from day one. It's the first standalone supercar to wear the four rings since the R8, and Audi is positioning it as proof of a broader shift toward electrified performance at the top end of its lineup.
Audi has been explicit about tying the Nuvolari's development to its first-ever entry into Formula 1, with engineers reportedly drawing on lessons in energy management, weight distribution, and lightweight construction from the F1 program. That motorsport link extends to the materials used throughout the car: nearly every exterior panel is made from carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer, produced using prepreg and autoclave methods borrowed from F1 manufacturing. The Nuvolari also debuts forged center-lock wheels on a production Audi for the first time.
Perhaps just as notable as the horsepower figures is the speed of the car's creation — Audi has said the Nuvolari went from initial sketch to finished supercar in roughly 405 days, an unusually compressed timeline that may end up shaping how the company approaches future halo projects.
The Nuvolari's U.S. unveiling unfolded across two of the week's marquee events. It first appeared at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, sharing the lawn with historic racers and rare collector cars, before making its broadest public appearance at the 75th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Audi also used the visit to give the car its first taste of American pavement, with a road debut along the coastal routes near Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Audi of America President Vito Paladino tied the debut directly to the setting, calling the Nuvolari's arrival "a defining moment for Audi, built on substance." Alongside the public displays, Audi arranged private appointments and curated sessions for collectors and prospective buyers, giving Audi's designers and technical staff a chance to walk guests through the car's engineering and craftsmanship in more depth.
The Monterey showing landed just over two weeks after the global debut of the Audi Q9 in New York, a scheduling choice the company says reflects how central the North American market has become to its plans. Between the Q9 launch and the Nuvolari's stateside reveal, Audi effectively used back-to-back U.S. events to signal a broader push — one spanning both its mainstream lineup and its most exclusive, limited-run models.
European ordering for the Nuvolari is expected to open later this year, with first deliveries targeted for the first half of 2027. Pricing and allocation details for U.S. customers have not yet been announced.
