Mercedes C-Class And GLC-Class EVs Will Debut Globally In 2026

Key Highlights

  • The all-new CLA is scheduled for release in 2025, with a slight price increase expected due to advanced technology.

  • Mercedes-Benz will base entry-level electric models like the GLA, GLB, and CLA on the new MMA platform. Development of the MB.EA Large version has been halted, but MB.EA Small is still ongoing.

  • Mercedes plans to increase its global share of top-end luxury cars, including the G-Class and AMG models, by 60%.

  • Despite expanding its EV lineup, Mercedes-Benz will continue to offer combustion-engine cars worldwide.

  • The company recognizes significant growth potential in the top-end vehicle category, which has seen double-digit growth in recent years.

Mercedes-Benz will add two major electric models to its lineup in 2026. CEO Ola Källenius announced that all-electric versions of the GLC-Class SUV and C-Class sedan will be introduced in 2026, with North American versions set to launch in 2027.

Mercedes-Benz's new all-electric models will be part of the ‘core luxury’ segment, along with the E-Class and CLE-Class.

The entry-level electric lineup will feature the GLA and GLB SUVs and CLA coupe sedans, all based on the new MMA platform. Originally, there were plans for two versions of the platform: MB.EA Large and MB.EA Small. Due to cost-cutting and a drop in EV sales, the development of MB.EA Large has been stopped, but MB.EA Small is still in progress.

The new CLA is set to launch in 2025, and its advanced technology will likely lead to a slight price increase. Mercedes also plans to boost the share of its top-end luxury cars, like the G-Class and AMG models, by 60% globally.

Sagree Sardien, Mercedes-Benz Cars head of Region Overseas, noted that Mercedes-Benz sees great potential in the top-end vehicle (TEV) category, which has been growing strongly for the brand. Even with expanding its EV lineup, Mercedes-Benz will continue to offer combustion-engine cars worldwide.

Verdict

Mercedes-Benz is set to expand its electric vehicle lineup significantly with the launch of the new CLA in 2025, and by increasing its range of high-end luxury cars. Despite this focus on electric vehicles, the company will continue to offer combustion-engine models globally, acknowledging their ongoing popularity and growth in the premium vehicle segment.
