Lotus fans have watched the brand shift from making lightweight sports cars to crafting powerful luxury performance vehicles, with a future focus on electric cars. The latest is a new concept supercar that combines its classic design with a look into the future.
The new concept car, called the Lotus Theory 1, features a design approach known as The Lotus Theory. This philosophy is based on three principles: Analog, Digital, and Natural, forming the acronym DNA.
The Theory 1’s design is inspired by the Series 1 Esprit. Developed at Lotus' design center in Coventry, it has a platform that’s 2,000 mm wide, 1,140 mm tall, and 4,490 mm long, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase. The front features air deflectors and diffusers to reduce drag and improve cooling, while an adjustable rear wing enhances downforce. The car combines a unibody structure with exposed carbon fiber and a glass dome roof.
The Theory 1 has a 3-seat layout like the McLaren F1, with two passenger seats behind a central driver’s seat. The driver’s seat is fixed, but the pedals and steering wheel can be adjusted. Instead of an infotainment screen, there’s a speedometer near the windscreen and a small display on the steering wheel.
The Theory 1 features an all-wheel-drive setup with twin electric motors and a 70 kWh battery that produces 1,000 hp. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in under 2.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 320 km/h. The battery provides a range of 402 km on a single charge.
The Lotus Theory 1 represents a new chapter for the brand, combining striking design and advanced technology as it embraces electrification.
Lotus Theory 1 signifies a major step forward for Lotus, merging striking design with cutting-edge technology in an all-electric supercar. With its powerful 1,000 hp dual-motor setup, fast acceleration, and impressive range, the Theory 1 reflects Lotus' commitment to blending its rich heritage with a futuristic vision.
