Hyundai has officially unveiled the all-new fifth-generation Tucson, marking one of the biggest design changes in the compact SUV's history. After six years as Hyundai's best-selling nameplate in the US, the Tucson is entering its next generation with a more rugged exterior, a larger cabin, new technology and a stronger focus on electrified powertrains.
The new 2026 Hyundai Tucson, internally known as NX5, moves away from the rounded styling of the outgoing model and adopts a boxier, more upright design inspired by Hyundai's latest concepts and SUVs.
The fifth-generation Tucson introduces Hyundai's latest "Art of Steel" design language, previously previewed by the Boulder concept. The design also draws inspiration from the Crater concept and the latest Santa Fe.
The new Tucson features:
Squared-off wheel arches
Flat body surfaces
Chunkier exterior cladding
Sharper character lines
A wider and more upright stance
A slimmer front light signature
At the front, a slim horizontal light bar is combined with vertical H-edge daytime running lights and a larger grille and bumper.
The rear receives a completely new lighting treatment, including three-dimensional prism-style lamps and slim vertical taillights. Hyundai says the illuminated design creates greater visual depth and gives the SUV a distinctive appearance at night.
The new Hyundai Tucson has also grown considerably compared with the outgoing model.
Dimension | New Tucson |
Length | Approx. 4,700 mm |
Width | Approx. 1,905 mm |
Height | Approx. 1,685 mm |
Wheelbase | Approx. 2,785 mm |
The SUV is approximately 60 mm longer, 40 mm wider and 40 mm longer in wheelbase, giving Hyundai more room to improve passenger and cargo space.
Hyundai says the increased dimensions help deliver class-leading interior space, strengthening the Tucson's position against competitors such as the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.
The interior receives an equally significant transformation.
The outgoing Tucson's dual curved-display layout has been replaced by a large tablet-style central display running Hyundai's next-generation Pleos Connect infotainment system.
The new cabin features:
Large central touchscreen
Digital driver display
Four-spoke steering wheel
Floating dashboard design
Integrated voice assistant
Ambient cabin lighting
Physical controls for key functions
Hyundai has retained physical controls for important functions, potentially making the cabin easier to operate while driving despite the increased reliance on digital technology.
Hyundai has not yet revealed the complete fifth-generation Tucson powertrain lineup. However, hybrid technology is expected to remain a major part of the range as Hyundai responds to growing demand for electrified SUVs.
The new Tucson is also expected to receive an updated regenerative braking system capable of automatically adjusting its operation according to traffic and road conditions.
US-market trim names such as SE, SEL and Limited are expected to continue for the hybrid lineup, although final specifications and equipment will be confirmed closer to launch.
Hyundai has already previewed a rugged Tucson XRT variant. The version is expected to appeal to buyers looking for a tougher, more adventurous appearance.
There is also speculation that Hyundai could eventually introduce a high-performance Tucson N, although the automaker has not officially confirmed the model.
The fifth-generation Hyundai Tucson is scheduled to launch in South Korea during the fourth quarter of 2026, with its official unveiling and market debut expected around October.
The redesigned Tucson is expected to reach the United States in 2027, potentially as a 2027 or 2028 model-year vehicle.
Hyundai has not yet announced final pricing, detailed engine specifications or the complete global market lineup.
The Tucson remains one of Hyundai's most important global models. Since its introduction in 2004, the nameplate has surpassed 7 million sales worldwide.
The fifth-generation model will continue competing in one of the world's most competitive SUV segments, taking on the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-50, among others.
With its larger dimensions, more rugged styling, redesigned interior and greater emphasis on hybrid technology, the new Tucson represents a major change rather than a simple facelift.
