Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — Audi has officially retired the A4 nameplate in Saudi Arabia, with the new Audi A5 Sedan taking its place in the premium executive sedan segment. The new A5 is currently offered in the Kingdom at a promotional starting price of SAR 239,900.
The change is more than a name swap. The latest A5 is larger than the outgoing A4 and combines a liftback-style body, advanced digital technology and updated powertrains as Audi takes on established rivals such as the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
The move from A4 to A5 stems from Audi's previous naming strategy, which used odd numbers for combustion and hybrid models and even numbers for electric vehicles. Although Audi has since moved away from that wider strategy, the A5 name remains for the successor to the A4.
For Saudi buyers, this means the Audi A5 Sedan is now the direct replacement for the A4 in the premium sedan segment.
The new Audi A5 Sedan measures 4,829 mm in length, making it 67 mm longer than its predecessor. The increased dimensions give the car greater road presence while improving practicality.
Despite being marketed as a sedan, the A5 features a liftback-style rear opening. The powered tailgate raises the rear glass with the boot lid, making it easier to load larger items than with a traditional sedan.
The A5 provides 445 litres of luggage space with the rear seats upright. Folding the seats increases capacity to up to 1,299 litres, giving the A5 a practical advantage over many conventional executive sedans.
Inside, the new A5 receives a major technology upgrade. A curved panoramic display dominates the dashboard, combining Audi's latest infotainment and digital interfaces.
The cabin features a 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen and an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster. Buyers can also add an optional 10.9-inch passenger display, which uses privacy technology designed to minimize driver distraction.
The screen-heavy cabin gives the A5 a distinctly modern character and places digital technology at the centre of its interior design.
The Saudi-market A5 Sedan is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a seven-speed S tronic automatic transmission.
The engine produces 204 hp and 340 Nm of torque. Front-wheel-drive versions accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, while quattro all-wheel-drive models complete the sprint in 7.6 seconds.
Audi is also expanding the A5 family with higher-performance models.
The Audi S5 Sedan uses a 3.0-litre V6 TFSI engine producing 367 hp and 550 Nm, reaching 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
At the top of the range, the Audi RS 5 Sedan features a plug-in hybrid powertrain producing a claimed 639 hp and accelerating from 0–100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. The RS 5 Avant shares the same powertrain and acceleration figure while offering greater cargo practicality.
The Audi A5 price in Saudi Arabia starts at SAR 239,900 under the current promotional offer. Final pricing can vary depending on trim, options, equipment and dealer availability.
Higher-performance S5 and RS 5 models will command significantly higher prices.
The new A5 enters a competitive premium sedan market, facing the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class as its primary German rivals. Other alternatives include the Cadillac CT5, Genesis G80 and Lexus ES.
Audi is differentiating the A5 through its combination of liftback practicality, digital technology, premium cabin features and available quattro all-wheel drive.
The retirement of the A4 closes an important chapter for Audi in the Kingdom, but the A5 arrives with a more practical and technology-focused package.
With a SAR 239,900 starting price, larger dimensions, up to 1,299 litres of cargo space and performance variants reaching 639 hp, the new Audi A5 is positioned to challenge established premium sedans while giving Saudi buyers a more versatile alternative to the traditional executive sedan.
