Toyota has officially revealed its all-new bZ7 electric sedan at the 2025 Shanghai Motor Show, showcasing the first production EV under the GAC-Toyota joint venture to equip Huawei’s HarmonyOS cockpit system. The electric four-door sedan is confirmed to launch by the end of this year. This elective Toyota sedan is exclusively designed for the Chinese automobile market.

The automaker previewed it in concept form at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show. The version showcased in Shanghai is the final production model of the new Toyota bZ7, featuring loads of tech features and equipped with the necessary safety suite to compete in China’s fastest-growing electric vehicle segment.
It features slim C-shaped through-type headlights integrated into a closed fascia on the front side. The roof-mounted lidar sensors hint at a high-level ADAS system, likely to include Huawei’s ADS system as part of the existing partnership on HarmonyOS.

The side profile showcases coupe-like styling with a gently sloping roofline that flows into the rear wing. There are hidden door handles and 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels for a subtle sporty stance. While the concept version showcased digital mirrors, the final production model has a traditional mirror unit. The concept design shows that physical door handles have been offered instead of flush-mounted door handles.
At the rear, it features full-width taillights, high-mounted brake lights, and a small aerodynamic wing to add to the car’s dynamic profile.
Inside the cabin are several tech features and a futuristic-theme-based cabin environment. It features a floating central infotainment screen, a digital instrument cluster, and a three-spoke steering wheel. Additionally, there are wireless charging pads in the center console and ambient lighting to set the mood for each type of drive. The panoramic sunroof further extends the appeal and premium feel inside the cabin.
However, Toyota has not confirmed the powertrain details; the all-new bZ7 sedan is expected to sit above the existing bZ3X and bZ4X models currently available in China. The new model will offer better performance, intelligent driving technology, and range.
With the rising competition in China’s EV market, introducing the new bZ series is part of Toyota’s strategy to strengthen its competitive position and maintain its market share. Integrating Huawei’s HarmonyOS cockpit is crucial as Chinese car buyers increasingly focus on connected car systems for a better ownership experience.
The GAC-Toyota joint venture is already witnessing an impressive performance in the market. In Q1 2025, the JV sold 171,477 units in the region and 66,066 units in March alone, registering a YoY growth of 19.3%.
