Ferrari's first electric car is expected to debut in 2025.
Spy shots of the Ferrari EV test mule reveal interesting design details.
The EV test mule resembles a Maserati Levante with fake exhausts.
Ferrari is using the SUV silhouette for powertrain testing.
The EV will be manufactured at Ferrari's new factory in Maranello.
Ferrari has stated that its first electric car won't be released before 2025. Now, the company is preparing to test its EV mule. Spotter Derek Cornelissen shared spy shots of the Ferrari EV test mule in Maranello on his Instagram, revealing some intriguing details.
At first glance, the car resembles the Maserati Levante, with similar taillights visible beneath the camouflage. The rear shots show fake exhausts, and the quad exhaust pipes look quite comical.
How do we know it's an EV test mule? The yellow high-voltage stickers give it away. The mule has headlights similar to the Ferrari Roma. The ground clearance is low for a baby SUV, but who would go off-roading in a Ferrari SUV? Like the Purosangue, owners will unlikely take it off the beaten track.
These spy shots don't confirm if Ferrari's new EV will be an SUV. Ferrari might be using an SUV body just to test its EV powertrain.
The new Ferrari EV will be built at the new factory in Maranello. Once the design is finalized, Ferrari will continue testing before it reaches showrooms. Ferrari also promised that, in 2019, the EV would have an authentic sound, which we are eager to hear.
Ferrari's CEO Benedetto Vigna told Autocar that their EV will be fun to drive. He added, "When we make electric cars, we'll do it right. We already have prototypes on the road that have covered thousands of kilometers. Our very experienced test drivers are our first clients. They drive many cars and can compare them, which is a key metric for us."
Ferrari will continue to use V12 engines as long as regulations allow. However, by 2030, they aim for pure gasoline cars to make up only 20% of their sales.
Ferrari is embracing electric vehicle technology while maintaining their iconic V12 engines. By 2030, they plan for gasoline cars to comprise only 20% of their sales, signaling a significant shift towards electrification without completely abandoning traditional powertrains.
