Dubai's busy roads are set to become more efficient with the establishment of two additional Salik toll plazas. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has strategically positioned these plazas to address the increasing traffic challenges in the city, aiming for more streamlined commutes and enhanced road infrastructure.
Business Bay Crossing:
This toll plaza is designed to address traffic moving from Jebel Ali towards Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road.
Sheikh Rashid Street:
Situated close to the Dubai Mall, this toll plaza aims to alleviate congestion on this significant thoroughfare.
Decreased Traffic Congestion:
As per the RTA, the toll plazas seek to reduce congestion by encouraging drivers to consider alternative routes. The goal is to achieve a 16% reduction in traffic congestion, particularly on heavily travelled roads such as Al Khail Road and Al Rebat Street.
Moreover, the toll plaza on Sheikh Rashid Street is anticipated to decrease right-turning traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Meydan Street by 15%. Additionally, traffic volumes from Al Meydan and Al Safa Streets to Sheikh Zayed Road are expected to decrease by approximately 42%.
Enhanced Travel Efficiency:
Efficient traffic flow leads to faster commutes for all. The current Salik system has already played a role in an annual reduction of 6 million hours in travel time throughout Dubai.
Investment in Infrastructure:
Proceeds from the tolls will be reinvested directly into essential road infrastructure and public transportation projects in Dubai. This guarantees the development of a sustainable and effective transportation system for the future.
Promotion of Public Transit:
Moreover, it will incentivize individuals to make use of Dubai's exceptional public transportation alternatives.

Anticipated Changes with the New Salik Toll Plazas:
Salik Account Maintenance: Ensure your Salik account is active and up-to-date to prevent any toll charges.
Signage and Awareness Initiatives: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will introduce informative campaigns to educate drivers about the new plazas and their anticipated effects.
Consider Alternative Routes: Investigate alternative routes such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Dubai – Al Ain Road, Ras Al Khor Road, and Al Manama Street as potential options to avoid toll charges.
The implementation of the new Salik toll plazas signifies a noteworthy stride toward a transportation system in Dubai that is both more effective and sustainable. While some may view them as an inconvenience, the enduring advantages in terms of traffic management, infrastructure enhancement, and environmental considerations cannot be overlooked.
By embracing these adjustments and considering alternative routes, residents in Dubai have the opportunity to play a part in creating a more seamless and enjoyable driving experience for all.
How to Bypass Salik?
Drivers and travellers seeking to evade the Salik toll gates can achieve this by adjusting their navigation settings. Apps such as Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, and similar ones offer alternative routes by selecting the option to avoid toll gates within the application.
