Renault Chairman Jean Dominique Senard would soon step down from Nissan's board of directors, some people related to this matter claimed, underscoring the ongoing leadership shakeup at the Japanese automaker after the unsuccessful attempt to merge with Honda.

According to industry insights, another Renault representative, Pierre Fleuriot, will also resign from the position on Nissan's board, and the French automaker will appoint a replacement for both vacant positions. Spokespeople for Nissan and Renault did not comment on this matter.
The new appointees of Renault will participate in key decision-making as new CEO Ivan Espinosa aims to settle Nissan's finances and secure partnerships that will stabilize the company's global performance.
The sources claimed that Honda and Nissan closed their merger talks in February as both directors had opposed Nissan's idea to merge with Honda.
Senard stated in March that the failed deal was not only extremely rapid, also a little brutal and not in the interest of Renault. The French automaker has the largest shareholding in Nissan even after gradually losing a decades-long alliance.
Nissan has been seeking to revive its global footprint and cater to sales in the US and China. The automaker also announced the significant job cuts and production before its record debt bill is due next year. Earlier this month, Espinosa replaced Makoto Uchida as CEO as part of a broader reshuffle in the board of directors team that also includes the appointment of new technology and production chiefs.
