Larger than the MG4 EV, it features a modern design with pronounced wheel arches, sleek LED lights, and a stylish rear profile.
Minimalist, spacious, with practical storage options, a large central touchscreen, and features like a sunroof, digital driver display, and leather seats.
Battery &Offers 49.1 kWh and 62.2 kWh battery options with up to 525 km range in the Long Range variant, with DC fast-charging capabilities.
Primarily rear-wheel drive with a base motor producing 168 hp, plus higher variants with 201 hp, and a top speed of 170 km/h.
The all-new 2025 MG ES5 was revealed in China on October 15, 2024. This compact electric SUV might replace the MG ZS EV, priced around AED 130,000 in the UAE. It will launch in China later this year, with global markets to follow in 2025.

When launched in the Middle East, the new MG ES5 will sit above the MG4 EV. Both models share SAIC's Modular Scalable Platform (MSP). The ES5 is expected to come in STD, COM, and LUX variants, with prices in China ranging from CNY 100,000-150,000 (around AED 51,000-77,000).

The MG ES5 is bigger than the MG4 EV, as expected from a crossover SUV. It has a longer wheelbase of 2,730 mm compared to the MG4's 2,705 mm, and an overall length of 4,476 mm, making it 189 mm longer for a stronger road presence.
The MG ES5, standing at 1,621 mm tall, is 105 mm taller, making it easier to get in and out. Its side profile features a familiar, modern crossover design.
The MG ES5 stands out with its bold wheel arches, extended shoulders, two-tone 18-inch alloy rims, and sleek wing mirrors. The mostly-sealed front fascia is highlighted by flared lower-lip extensions and sharp LED headlights, while the pulled-back LED daytime running lights add a sleek touch.
At the rear, it features a roof-integrated spoiler, a ducktail extension, a full-width light bar, and fancy scissor-style tail light extensions, though the rest of the rear design is more understated.

The interior of the 2025 MG ES5 embraces minimalism, featuring clean lines and practical storage options. It includes cupholders between the front seats, bottle holders in the doors, and storage in the center tunnel, both above and below.
The 2025 MG ES5 has a curved, soft-touch dashboard with stylishly integrated AC vents. Behind the steering wheel is a flat-top and bottom digital driver’s display, and the steering wheel design is similar to some VW Group cars.
The gearbox is operated through a column stalk, and a large touchscreen on the dashboard supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The glass sunroof adds to the airy feel, enhanced by optional light upholstery and spacious leather seats.
Passengers sit higher than in the MG4 EV, with rear seats featuring headrests, a center armrest, and LED reading lights. Expected features include wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, powered front seats, adaptive cruise control, and a premium sound system.

When launched, the MG ES5 is expected to come with two battery options: a 49.1 kWh and a 62.2 kWh lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) battery. There will also be a Long Range version that offers a range of 525 km. The other versions will have ranges of 425 km and 515 km, based on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).
According to the British-Chinese automaker, the MG ES5's battery packs are only 110 mm thick, making them the thinnest in the world. Like the MG4 EV, the ES5 will mostly have rear-wheel drive and be powered by a single electric motor. The base model will produce 168 hp (125 kW) and 250 Nm of torque.
Higher versions of the MG ES5 may offer 201 hp (150 kW). The base variant can reach a top speed of 170 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 7 to 8 seconds, which is decent but not fast. The DC fast-charging speed is expected to be 85 kW.
The 2025 MG ES5 will also feature drive modes for a more engaging driving experience. MG Motor may adjust the suspension to be softer due to the crossover SUV's higher weight, which might lead to more body roll during sharp turns.

The MG ES5 will likely have similar safety features to the MG4 EV. Buyers can expect the MG Pilot system, which includes blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, door-open warning, Smart Speed Assist System, and Unsteady Driver Warning.
It will also come with at least six airbags, an electronic stability program, and tire pressure monitoring (TPMS). Additional important features will include front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, ISOFIX anchors for child seats, ABS disc brakes with auto hold, automatic headlights, seatbelt reminders, and autonomous emergency braking.
2025 MG ES5 presents an impressive option for a compact electric SUV. With its spacious interior, advanced technology, practical design, and solid performance options, it’s well-suited for both city driving and longer journeys. Offering a range of battery choices, competitive safety features, and the latest MG Pilot assistance tech, the ES5 is likely to be a popular choice among those seeking a modern and versatile EV, especially as it launches in global markets, including the UAE.
