
On Thursday, Kia, a renowned and the second-biggest carmaker from South Korea unveiled its new electric vehicle models and future electrification strategies in an event organized in Spain. Kia introduced three major models, including Kia EV4, Kia PV5, and Kia Concept EV2 SUV, showcasing the latest electric technology and design innovations.

Kia EV4 is the first electric sedan from the company, while PV5 is its first purpose-built vehicle, featuring Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated PBV platform called E-GMP.S. The concept EV2 is the compact sporty vehicle in its EV lineup.
E-GMP.S refers to the electric global modular platform for service architecture that enables flexible configuration using its modular body system. The Kia EV4 is showcased with the dedicated EV platform called E-GMP and an 81.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The EV4 is the brand’s longest-driving range EV model and can deliver up to 533 km range on a single charge.

The South Korean automaker aims to launch Kia EV4 in global markets after introducing this hatchback version in Europe this year. Kia aims to sell 165,000 units of EV4 annually in global markets, including 80,000 units in Europe, 50,000 in the US, and 25,000 in South Korea. The carmaker also plans to launch its Kia EV5 lineup in the global market after launching in Europe and domestic markets. PV5 was revealed as the concept at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, and it’s the first dedicated EV focusing on Kia’s PBV business strategy.

With key variants, PV5 Cargo, PV5 Passenger, and PV5 Wheelchair Access Vehicle variants and PV5 Crew, the PV5 lineup highlighted the industry-transforming flexibility of Kia’s first PBV model. It offers a new ground of innovation and lays the foundation for new ways of EV usability with an unmatched level of configuration flexibility.

The industry reports state that the Kia PV5 is ready to be introduced at the Seoul Mobility Show, which will start next month. Meanwhile, the automaker aims to launch a mass-produced model of the EV2 SUV in Europe by next year. Kia is anticipating to sell over 100,000 units a year of the EV2 model in Europe with its launch next year.
