Infiniti Has Stopped Producing The Q50 Sedan

Key Highlights

  • Infiniti will end production of the Q50 sedan by the end of 2024.

  • Shift toward SUVs and crossovers due to increased demand.

  • Q50 sales saw an 11% decline in 2024.

  • No direct successor planned, but the Vision Qe electric sedan may launch by 2026.

  • Infiniti's current focus is on SUVs like the QX80, QX60, and QX50.

Infiniti has paused sedan production, with the Q50 ending its decade-long run in 2024 and no plans for a 2025 model. Its coupe version was discontinued in 2022.

Infiniti is shifting focus from sedans and coupes to SUVs and crossovers due to higher demand. The Q50’s production ended because of declining sales, with projections showing only 10% of its 2016 sales volume. In June, Infiniti sold just 2,839 Q50s in the US, an 11% drop from the same time in 2023.

At its launch, the Q50 featured high-end amenities such as a 16-speaker Bose sound system, adaptive headlights, ambient lighting, and quilted leather seats. It also included adaptive suspension, keyless entry, smartphone integration, and safety features like automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning.

With no replacement for the Q50, Infiniti's focus will shift to SUVs and crossovers, including the new QX80 and models like the QX60, QX50, and QX55. However, an electric sedan may still join the lineup. Infiniti's all-electric Qe concept, revealed last year, could fill the gap left by the Q50. The Vision Qe Concept may also act as an electric successor to the Q70, with a launch expected by 2026.

Verdict

Infiniti is phasing out the Q50 sedan as it shifts its focus toward SUVs and crossovers, reflecting market trends. While no direct successor is planned, the brand may reintroduce an electric sedan with the upcoming Vision Qe Concept, potentially filling the gap in its lineup by 2026.
