General Motors Middle East has partnered with the UAE Civil Defense to launch a ground-breaking first responder training program, marking a major step towards securing the safety and preparedness of the market for the impending surge in electric vehicles. Through this program, specialized training will be made available for the first time in the region to give emergency service providers the knowledge and abilities they need to handle electric vehicles especially those that run on GM's state-of-the-art Ultium battery platform.
The 'Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) – Fist Responders Training' practical course was attended by 29 committed first responders and Brigadier General Salam Mohamad Allay Al Naqbi from the General Command of Civil Defense of the United Arab Emirates. It offered best practices and useful advice for dealing with electric vehicle emergencies. Seasoned professionals led the workshop from GM Middle East's Customer Care and Aftersales team.
It's encouraging to see GM taking action to raise awareness of EVs, especially since they have plans to release a wide range of electric cars under the Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac brands shortly. Along with debunking myths, the initiative shares industry best practices for safely operating electric and electrified (hybrid) vehicles in a range of circumstances.

GM cites a common misperception in the press release regarding the safety of water near electric vehicle batteries. However, using a lot of water is the best way to put out a lithium-ion battery fire. For the right EV adoption, this information is essential.
"This marks a milestone in our path to scaling up our Battery Electric vehicle plans," stated Sajed Sbeih, Director of Customer Care and Aftersales at GM Africa and Middle East. "Safety education is a foundation of our readiness to serve our customers and support stakeholders to ensure their safety during emergencies." As we move toward a cleaner, brighter, electrified future, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the UAE Civil Defense and all participants for promoting positive change and ensuring public safety.
