BYD has unveiled its long-awaited Shark pickup truck, ready to rival the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger in the mid-size pickup market. With a plug-in hybrid powertrain, it offers a notable edge over its competitors.

The BYD Shark adopts a classic double-cab pickup truck design, highlighting impressive elements like C-shaped LED daytime running lights and a prominent BYD emblem upfront. This distinctive lighting theme extends to the rear of the vehicle as well.
The interior of the Shark prioritizes the driver, with a 12.8-inch central touchscreen for infotainment and a 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel. It also includes a 12-inch head-up display (HUD) and seamless smartphone integration via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The Shark pickup truck will come in two versions: GL and GS. It measures 1971 mm wide, 1925 mm tall, and 5457 mm long, with a 3260 mm wheelbase. With its robust body-on-frame construction, it boasts an impressive payload capacity of 835 kg and towing capacity of 2,500 kg. To improve performance, it is equipped with independent front and rear suspension.
The Shark pickup truck showcases a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a dual-motor configuration. The rear motor delivers 201 hp and 340 Nm of torque, while the front motor can produce up to 228 hp and 310 Nm of torque. Together, they generate a combined output of 435 hp.
This powerful combination enables the pickup truck to accelerate rapidly, achieving 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 5.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour.

The Shark is equipped with a 29.58-kWh battery pack, providing an electric NEDC range of about 100 kilometers. It offers a rapid charging time of around 20 minutes to charge the battery from 30% to 80%. In pure gasoline mode, it can cover up to 840 kilometers.
Color choices for the BYD Shark include Marmara Black, Pallas White, and Atlantis Gray.
