BYD UAE, with its exclusive distributor Al-Futtaim, has introduced its new Megawatt Flash Charging technology in the region. The next-generation charging technology promises to transform electric mobility by tackling one of the biggest challenges that the majority of EV owners face: charging time.

BYD has designed its Megawatt Flash Charging system to reduce the charging anxiety by promising a speed that matches petrol refuelling. The automaker confirms that the drivers will be able to enjoy 400 km of range in just 5 minutes of flash charging, offering about 2 km of range in every single second of charge.

Stella Li, EVP of BYD, stated that the BYD Megawatt Flash Charging stations will offer customers the same speed as filling gas. At the core of this new generation fast charging is BYD’s Flash Charging Battery and 1000V high voltage architecture, supporting the charging current of up to 1000A and charging rate of 10C.

BYD’s partner in the UAE, Al-Futtaim, has emphasized the technology’s role in shaping the landscape of sustainable mobility across the country. Lucas Bellieud, MD of Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility, said that this breakthrough makes charging as fast as refuelling a gasoline car, removing one of the biggest challenges of EV adoption. It will improve the EV ownership experience while directly supporting the UAE’s environmental goals.
The Megawatt Flash Charging system also has the world’s first all-liquid cooled charging terminal, capable of providing up to 1360kW of power supply. It will ensure reliability and efficiency for large-scale deployment across the region.
While the official details about rollout, charging station locations, and compatible BYD models will be revealed in the coming months, the automaker has confirmed that it is ready to take a major step to make EV ownership even more convenient for residents and businesses in the UAE.
At present, BYD has a strong portfolio of its electric models in the UAE, including BYD Atto 3, Sealion 7, Shark 6, BYD Han, and Seal 7.
