Rimac and BMW have teamed up to advance future vehicle projects by creating high-voltage battery solutions. BMW currently acquires EV batteries from various global locations and is expanding its facilities in Mexico, China, Hungary, and the US to enhance battery performance. Furthermore, a new assembly plant in Germany will produce batteries for BMW's EVs in Regensburg, Munich, and Dingolfing. These batteries are slated to power the Neue Klasse EV range starting in 2025.
The collaboration between BMW and Rimac is fascinating. Rimac, known for producing the Nevera, the fastest-accelerating road-legal car, is poised to complement BMW's potential entry into electric hypercars. Described by Rimac as their most ambitious and significant project to date, this partnership adds to their impressive portfolio. Additionally, in 2021, Rimac merged with Bugatti to form Bugatti Rimac, a joint venture between Porsche and Rimac Group. Beyond supercars, Rimac supplies electric powertrain components, including crucial parts for the Koenigsegg Regera plug-in hybrid supercar. While Rimac previously collaborated with Hyundai, the partnership eventually dissolved.
