https://www.carbike360.ae/cars/bentley has changed its plan for electric cars, delaying the launch of its first all-electric vehicle to 2026 instead of 2025. Deliveries will start in 2027. This decision is part of Bentley's bigger plan to invest about $3.5 billion to have a completely electric lineup by 2030 to 2033.

Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark attributed the postponement to several technical hurdles, such as complexities related to the platform and software problems. These challenges mirror those encountered by Audi and Porsche with the Premium Platform Electric. The platform holds significant importance for Bentley as it will support its future electric vehicles and form the basis for various models across the Volkswagen Group.

Bentley

Bentley is concentrating on replacing key models like the Bentayga and Continental GT with electric versions. However, their first electric vehicle will be a brand-new model. Hallmark mentioned that introducing a completely new model, rather than an updated version of an existing one, would be less stressful. The production of the first Bentley electric vehicle will take place in Crewe, where they're building a special facility just for electric cars.

Bentley is getting ready to introduce a new high-performance plug-in hybrid system, using a V8 engine as a replacement for the discontinued W12 engine. Initially, Bentley expected a decrease in demand for hybrid cars, but now they predict it will grow. They're investing more in producing plug-in hybrids, which they plan to offer until the early 2030s. Later this year, they will update models like the Flying Spur, GT, and GTC with the new V8 plug-in hybrid system, making the entire Bentley lineup hybrid.

Verdict

Bentley is adapting to the changing landscape of the automotive industry by shifting towards electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. They are delaying the launch of their first all-electric vehicle to 2026, while also investing in new plug-in hybrid technology using V8 engines.

This strategic move aligns with their goal to offer a fully electric lineup by the early 2030s. Additionally, Bentley plans to update existing models with the new hybrid drivetrain, ensuring that their entire lineup reflects their commitment to sustainability and innovation.
