[2027 Cadillac XT5 PHEV luxury plug-in hybrid SUV]
The 2027 Cadillac XT5 PHEV could bring 362 hp, nearly 100 miles of electric range and advanced AI driving technology — but China gets it first.
Cadillac is preparing a major electrification upgrade for its popular midsize SUV. The 2027 Cadillac XT5 PHEV has surfaced through Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filings, revealing several important details ahead of its official debut.
Cadillac has confirmed the model, but final specifications, pricing and global availability are still pending.
China has become an important development and launch market for electrified vehicles, with buyers increasingly demanding plug-in hybrids, advanced software and intelligent driving systems.
The current Cadillac XT5 sold in the US is based on an older generation, while the redesigned model developed for China is expected to reach American buyers around 2027.
The XT5 PHEV therefore offers an early look at how Cadillac could transform its popular luxury SUV for the electrified era.
The biggest talking point is the reported powertrain.
MIIT information points to a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing approximately 148 hp. It is paired with two electric motors — one at the front producing around 215 hp and another at the rear rated at roughly 148 hp.
The combined system output is reportedly close to 362 hp.
The dual-motor setup also provides all-wheel drive without a conventional mechanical driveshaft connecting the axles.
Cadillac has not yet clarified whether the system operates as a conventional plug-in hybrid or follows a range-extender-style configuration.
The XT5 PHEV's most impressive figure could be its electric range.
A reported 35.5-kWh battery is expected to deliver approximately 155 km (96 miles) of electric-only driving under China's CLTC cycle.
A larger battery option is also reportedly being developed.
The SUV could additionally support bidirectional charging, allowing the battery to supply power externally and potentially serve as a backup energy source.
The new XT5 PHEV reportedly takes styling inspiration from Cadillac's latest EVs, including the Optiq, Lyriq and Vistiq.
Expected design changes include an illuminated front grille, active air shutters, aerodynamic wheels, red brake calipers and a redesigned rear bumper without visible exhaust outlets.
A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor and camera-based side mirrors also point toward a stronger focus on advanced driver assistance.
The technology upgrade goes beyond electrification.
Reports indicate that the XT5 PHEV could use Momenta's R7 World Model, an AI-based driving system designed to interpret complex traffic situations.
The system is expected to support advanced hands-off driving functions, including automated lane changes and navigating roundabouts.
For UAE buyers, the biggest question is whether Cadillac will eventually bring the plug-in hybrid XT5 to the region.
There is currently no official confirmation of UAE availability. However, the SUV's combination of electric range, AWD, strong performance and premium technology could make it an interesting option for the Gulf market.
The model is expected to officially debut in China in the second half of 2026, with the US expected to follow around 2027.
The 2027 Cadillac XT5 PHEV could be one of Cadillac's most ambitious hybrid SUVs yet. With a reported 362 hp, up to 96 miles of CLTC electric range, dual-motor AWD and AI-powered driving technology, it significantly raises the XT5's technology credentials.
For now, however, China gets the first look while UAE and other international buyers wait for Cadillac's next move.
Note: Power, battery, range, pricing and market availability are based on preliminary regulatory information and reports and remain subject to Cadillac's final confirmation.
