Aston Martin's new Vantage GT3 secured its second straight class victory in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The Vantage GT3, driven by The Heart of Racing team (cleverly abbreviated as THoR), dominated the GTD category.

The THoR team, with drivers Roman De Angelis and Spencer Pumpelly, clinched a big win with the #27 Aston Martin Vantage GT3. This was De Angelis’s second win at his home event in three years—a special achievement for him.

Ross Gunn and Alex Riberas secured their first win with the car in the GTD Pro class at Watkins Glen. Now, the Aston Martin team is just 60 points behind the class leader, with four races left in the season.

This latest win brings Aston Martin Vantage's total IMSA victories in the GT classes to 13, and THoR's GTD class wins to eight since their 2020 debut.

Besides their IMSA success, The Heart of Racing team also achieved their best result in the FIA World Endurance Championship by finishing second in the LMGT3 class at the 6 Hours of São Paulo.

Ian James, the team principal and WEC driver, shared his excitement about the team's achievements. He praised the #27 crew’s hard work and looked forward to more podium finishes in both IMSA and WEC events. James said, “Winning at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park was a great start to the day and a well-earned reward for the #27 crew’s effort.”

“Finishing second in the WEC was a great achievement and it’s wonderful to be on the podium again. We hope for many more moments like this!”

Adam Carter, Head of Endurance Motorsport, praised the new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 for its strong performance. He is hopeful about future victories, noting the team’s competitive pace in recent races.

Carter said, “The new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 is performing very well, and winning its class in IMSA for the second time is fantastic. The team was also close to winning in WEC, showing a strong race pace like in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. If we keep up this level of competition, a WEC victory with Vantage could be possible in 2024.”

Upcoming Races

The next IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship race will be held at Road America on August 4. The WEC will resume on September 1 at the Circuit of the Americas after a summer break.

The Aston Martin Vantage GT3 continues to impress, securing its second consecutive class win at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and adding to its record of victories. The Heart of Racing team has also matched its best result in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
