Zeekr — owned by Geely Group — is a prominent Chinese electric car maker and has unveiled the new version of its sporty high-performance 001 electric car. The new launch is named Zeekr 001 FR, considered one of the fastest electric cars and a possible rival of the Tesla Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire.
The newly launched Zeekr 001 FR has up to 11 quad-silicon carbide electric motor systems capable of powering each wheel separately. Two motors on the front side churn out 155kW each, while the rear setup produces 310kW each. This quad motor setup gets power from a 100kW Qilin battery from CATL.
FR is designed to deliver extreme performance on future roads; presently, it produces 1,247hp of power and 1,280Nm of maximum torque, helping it outsprint 0-100kmph in 2.07 seconds. The supercar can achieve a top speed of 280 kmph. In contrast, the Tesla Model S Plaid sprints 0-96 kmph in 1.99 seconds, while the Lucid Air variant makes it happen in 1.89 seconds.
Zeekr 001 FR has been launched after several upgrades to make the ride smoother and more efficient. The key enhancement includes a four-motor setup that contributes significantly to the vehicle's performance. The Chinese automotive company has also configured it with AP Racing 10-piston calipers in front, 4-piston calipers in the rear, 22-inch racing wheels, and Giti Motorsport GTR2 tires.
According to company reports, the Zeekr 001 FR comes mated with 800V architecture, enabling a 100kWh battery to charge from 10-80% in 15 minutes. The expected range of Zeekr 001 FR on a single charge can be over 1,000 km; on a 15-minute charge, the EV should give around 700 km range.
Zeekr has made some changes in the design of the EV to make it look more aesthetic and elegant. Some major changes include aggressive and wider body kit, side skirts, bigger alloy wheels, rear spoiler, and upgraded aerodynamics.
Zeekr 001 FR electric car has a 15.4-inch infotainment system and an 8.8-inch instrument cluster, and the vehicle runs on the latest OS 5.0 software from Zeekr. The carmaker has confirmed that OS 5.0 is the latest OS in the current year. This electric car also sports a built-in satellite phone and navigation system, using nine satellite networks, increasing to 72 by 2025. Moreover, the car has been configured with NZP Navigation Zeekr Pilot, a similar autonomous driving system found in Tesla electric cars.
According to media reports, the company has produced Zeekr 001 FR in limited numbers, which is around 99 units per month. Thus, the supercar is expected to be sold only in China, which will be launched in the Netherlands this year. Other car markets can expect this EV to come by 2026.
