Volvo will debut its first electric sedan, the ES90, in March 2025 at an event in Stockholm, Sweden. Positioned to rival the Mercedes-Benz EQE and BMW i5, the ES90 will be part of Volvo's upcoming lineup of five cutting-edge EVs, with a strong emphasis on the Chinese market.
The ES90 shares a strong resemblance with the EX90 electric SUV and will act as Volvo’s technological flagship. Built on the SPA2 platform like the EX90, its design takes cues from the S90 sedan. Key features include 'Thor's hammer' headlights, a closed grille, and vertical rear lights, mirroring the EX90's elements.
The ES90 features a 3,100 mm wheelbase and a length of 4,999 mm, ensuring ample interior space. It will be available in dual-motor AWD and single-motor RWD configurations. The single-motor variant will house a 111kWh battery, delivering a range of up to 600 km. Power outputs are expected to align with the EX90, offering approximately 402 hp for standard models and up to 502 hp for performance variants.
The ES90 will showcase Volvo’s advanced Superset tech stack, combining software and hardware to support autonomous features, infotainment, and more. This system, standard across all future Volvo models, allows for over-the-air updates. It will also incorporate key safety technologies from the EX90, including a LiDAR scanner.
As Volvo's fifth electric model, the ES90 follows the XC40/EX40, EX30, EX90 SUV, and C40/EC40, with the EX60, an electric XC60, set to debut in 2026. More details about the ES90 will be shared ahead of its global launch.
The Volvo ES90 marks a significant milestone as the brand's first electric sedan, combining cutting-edge technology, advanced safety features, and luxurious design. Built on the SPA2 platform, it offers a range of up to 600 km and versatile powertrain options, catering to both performance and efficiency enthusiasts.
As part of Volvo’s growing EV lineup, the ES90 showcases the brand's commitment to sustainable mobility while maintaining its reputation for safety and innovation. With its debut set for 2025, the ES90 is poised to redefine the electric sedan market.
