At the ongoing 2024 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, Volkswagen unveiled its newest range of vehicles featuring a voice assistant powered by AI technology known as ChatGPT. Through the integration of ChatGPT's artificial intelligence into its voice assistant system, the German automaker intends to provide a heightened level of responsiveness, intuition, and seamless interaction among passengers, drivers, and their vehicles.
The AI-driven chatbot, ChatGPT, is now incorporated into the IDA voice assistant found in various models including ID.4, ID.7, ID.3, Passat, Tiguan, and Golf. This integration proves highly beneficial for users, allowing easy access to a growing AI database. While driving, the voice assistant has the capability to audibly relay researched content. Activating it is simple—just press a button on the steering wheel or utter a casual "Hello IDA," giving users control over various systems without the need for additional installations or accounts.
Volkswagen has achieved a milestone by being the initial mass-produced automaker to implement ChatGPT as a standard feature in the compact vehicle segment. In collaboration with Cerence, the German automaker ensures the seamless functioning of this technology, enabling drivers to effortlessly utilize the AI-powered research tool. Their joint commitment is to deliver a user-friendly technological experience to Volkswagen car owners.
Volkswagen prioritizes user privacy by assuring that ChatGPT does not have access to any vehicle data. The software's generated responses and queries are promptly deleted, demonstrating responsible information handling and preventing any potential data breaches.
