Volkswagen intends to introduce the ID.1, a reasonably priced electric vehicle with a starting price of approximately €20,000 (AED 79,324.38). For this car, Skoda will assist in the development of a new architecture, though all specifics are still pending. However, given the company's cost-cutting measures, which include a three-year plan to save about €10 billion, VW ID.1's future is still uncertain.

Targeting the European market in particular, the upcoming Renault Twingo, which is expected to go into production by 2026, will also be an affordable city electric vehicle. Prioritizing efficiency is one of the many cost-cutting tactics that have been used. Because of shared economies of scale with other upcoming EVs like the Renault 4, Renault 5, and Nissan Micra EV, using the Renault Group's Ampr Small platform—previously known as CMF-BEV—will result in additional cost savings.

Chief of Renault Group Luca de Meo suggested the possibility of looking for an outside partner to develop Twingo. He stressed that talks about splitting the costs of the vehicle's development with OEM partners are still going on. The Twingo offers infotainment and technological features that will appeal to tech-savvy consumers, thereby targeting a potential market for Chinese automobiles.
