UAEV's efforts support economic growth, environmental sustainability, and consumer empowerment.
The commitment to expanding charging infrastructure demonstrates the UAE's dedication to electric mobility.
UAEV's partnership with industry leaders underscores its strategic approach to diversifying operations and capitalizing on emerging opportunities.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is speeding up its move toward a sustainable future with the launch of UAEV, a pioneering joint venture created by the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Etihad Water and Electricity (Etihad WE).
This unique, government-supported initiative was unveiled at the ongoing Electric Vehicle Innovation Summit (EVIS). It aims to develop an extensive and accessible network of fast-charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) across the UAE.
UAEV recognizes the growing demand for EVs and understands that a strong charging infrastructure is crucial for their widespread adoption. By creating a convenient and reliable network of fast chargers, UAEV aims to significantly reduce "range anxiety," a major concern for many potential EV owners. This initiative aligns with the UAE's ambitious goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
UAEV plans to install 100 chargers by the end of 2024, with a long-term goal of reaching 1,000 chargers by 2030. This extensive network could transform the UAE's transportation landscape.
H.E. Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, stated, "UAEV represents a strong partnership between government and industry, aiming to provide essential electric vehicle infrastructure to increase EV adoption, invigorate communities, and unlock the UAE's economic potential. We believe this collaboration will further speed up the shift to cleaner transportation and greatly reduce emissions from the transportation sector, bringing us closer to our Net Zero 2050 Strategy."
UAEV will focus on speed and convenience by implementing fast-charging technology in its network, allowing users to quickly recharge their EVs and reduce wait times.
The UAEV network will feature user-friendly interfaces, providing EV owners with a seamless and hassle-free charging experience.
To ensure maximum accessibility, charging stations will be strategically located at popular public spots like shopping malls, universities, and hospitals, frequented by residents.
Additionally, the initiative aims to create dedicated EV hubs designed like traditional gas stations, providing a familiar and convenient experience for EV drivers.
The introduction of UAEV is anticipated to bring about significant effects across the UAE:
Economic Boon:

The initiative is expected to spur economic growth across the Emirates by creating job opportunities in multiple sectors. Additionally, the shift to EVs could encourage innovation, investment in new technologies, and the development of supply chains and business models, thus bolstering the UAE's competitiveness.
Environmental Impact:
UAEV's promotion of cleaner transportation options plays a vital role in tackling climate issues and forging a sustainable path forward for the UAE. The widespread adoption of EVs will result in lower greenhouse gas emissions, making a substantial contribution to the country's environmental objectives.
Consumers-Centric:
The widespread availability of charging infrastructure empowers consumers to make informed decisions about their vehicle choices and the environmental footprint of their transportation habits. It encourages a transition to cleaner, more sustainable transportation, giving consumers the ability to drive this change themselves.
The introduction of UAEV comes at a time of remarkable expansion in the worldwide EV sector. With global EV sales reaching an impressive 14 million units in 2023, marking a significant 37.3% rise from the previous year, the UAE is strategically aligning itself to seize opportunities in this growing market. Reflecting this trend, the UAE has witnessed a notable increase in battery electric vehicle (BEV) adoption, with penetration rising from 3.7% in 2022 to 11.3% in 2023.
Eng. Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of Etihad Water and Electricity and Board Member of UAEV, expressed that the launch of UAEV marks a significant achievement for their organization. It reflects a strategic shift towards diversification by leveraging their expertise in the energy sector to explore new avenues. The charging infrastructure provided by UAEV will not only modernize the UAE's transportation network but also stimulate job creation and empower consumers to make environmentally friendly choices, aligning with the nation's sustainability goals.
UAEV's rapid-charging infrastructure supports the UAE's transition to electric vehicles, positioning the nation as a frontrunner in clean transportation globally. This initiative fosters economic development, environmental progress, and enables consumers to make sustainable transportation choices.
UAEV's introduction of a fast-charging network marks a significant step towards a cleaner transportation future in the UAE. By supporting the adoption of electric vehicles, the initiative not only promotes environmental sustainability but also enhances economic growth and empowers consumers to make greener choices. With UAEV's commitment to expanding charging infrastructure, the UAE is poised to lead the way in the global transition to electric mobility.
