Despite a global shift towards compact crossovers and utility vehicles, the UAE's enduring preference for robust SUVs remains steadfast. These resilient and confidence-inspiring vehicles continue to establish a strong road presence. Recently, there has been an increase in the popularity of 4-wheel Drive vehicles, such as the Suzuki Jimny 5-door, BAIC BJ40, and the Haval Dargo, which cater to contemporary tastes. Joining this trend, Jetour, distributed by The Elite Cars, has introduced the T2 SUV, aiming to excel in off-road capabilities while enveloping occupants in luxury, technology, and comfort. At the unveiling event, the spotlight was on its standout feature, the XWD off-road concept.

The T2 represents the Chinese brand's entry into the distinctive off-roading vehicle market, following a new "Travel+" strategy that merges tourism with automotive engineering. This approach enables the brand to consider the diverse needs of travelers and how to meet them effectively. Therefore, it's no surprise that the vehicle is named 'Traveller' in its domestic market.

At first glance, the car shares noticeable similarities with the Land Rover Defender. Features like its boxy shape, squared headlights, robust bumper cladding, and high shoulder line all pay homage to the Defender's design. The exterior also incorporates trendy green materials for the bumper, wheel rims, and roof rails, aiming to appeal to younger buyers.

With dimensions of 4785mm x 2006mm x 1880mm (L x W x H), it's a sizable SUV, as evident from its side profile. Upon closer inspection of the rear, its inspiration from the pricier Land Rover Defender becomes apparent. Thus, it adopts a darkened area for the tail lights, a large spare tire mounted on the boot, and exposed hinges, reminiscent of utilitarian vehicles from the past that ventured off-road.

The interior has been meticulously designed to provide passengers a comfortable and technologically advanced experience. At the forefront is a 15.6" High-Resolution screen that commands the center console, offering support for air conditioning, dual-zone climate control, smartphone-compatible apps, and off-road settings for rugged terrains. Additionally, it boasts a 12-channel Sony speaker system, ensuring balanced sound throughout the vehicle. Beneath the octagonal-shaped steering wheel, a sophisticated digital display for the instrument cluster adds to the cabin's elegance.

The vehicle will be equipped with an abundance of features, including ventilated seats for added cooling during hot summers, ambient lighting to enhance the atmosphere, a Magic Electric Door system for convenient opening and closing of the tailgate, a panoramic sunroof with roof rails designed for carrying camping gear, and a 540° camera to assist with self-parking. Additionally, it boasts Level-2 autonomous driving capabilities, such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. Comfort is further emphasized with plush cushions on the headrests and extra padding on the seats.

The Jetour T2 is designed for serious off-road adventures, boasting an approach angle of 28° and a departure angle of 30°. What distinguishes it from other vehicles is its BorgWarner 6th generation XWD technology, which intelligently monitors road conditions and swiftly adjusts torque delivery for optimal power without unsettling the driver. The center screen continuously displays images of the terrain beneath the vehicle, aiding in maneuvering. These features, combined with the vehicle's body structure, enable it to ford water up to 700mm deep.

Due to the demands of heavy-duty performance, the Jetour T2 is equipped with a robust 2.0-liter Turbo GDI engine, delivering 252 horsepower and 390 Nm of torque. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, it ensures ample power. To cater to various driving preferences, the vehicle offers selectable driving modes including Sport, Normal, Economy, Snow, Mud, and Rock. Additionally, it features a crawling mode for careful navigation over rough terrain while maintaining traction.

Jetour plans to introduce 10 new vehicles by 2026, focusing on both "off-road travel" and "family travel" segments. With recent sales surpassing 10,000 units in each of the past two months, there's a strong likelihood that the feature-packed Jetour T2 will also gain traction in the UAE market. Leveraging the vehicle's potential, Jetour offers an impressive warranty of 10 years or 1 million kilometers, along with a service package covering 3 years or 40,000 kilometers.

Verdict

Jetour's ambitious plans to expand its vehicle lineup and its recent sales success signify a promising future for the Jetour T2 in the UAE market. With its impressive features, robust warranty, and service package, the T2 is poised to make a significant impact in both the "off-road travel" and "family travel" segments. As Jetour continues to innovate and cater to the evolving needs of consumers, the T2 stands out as a compelling option for those seeking adventure and comfort on the road.
