The UAE Cabinet has introduced new fees for charging electric vehicles, according to Cabinet Resolution No. 81 of 2024.

This decision came after thoroughly reviewing the UAE Constitution, Federal Law No. (1) of 1972, which covers the Jurisdictions of the Ministries and the Competences of the Ministers (as amended), and Federal Decree-Law No. 26 of 2019 on Public Finance (as amended).

The proposal was put forward by the Minister of Finance and got the green light from the Cabinet.

Fee Structure

Here's what the new resolution states about fees for EV charging services:

Express Charging Service: At least Dh1.20 + VAT per kWh.
Slow Charging Service: At least Dh0.70 + VAT per kWh.

Adjustment of Fees

The Council of Ministers can adjust these fees as needed, including adding, removing, or changing them.

Collection Mechanisms

Federal authorities will collect the fees using methods determined by the Ministry of Finance, while local authorities will use systems set up at the Emirate level.

The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, working with the Ministry of Finance, will issue any required rules and procedures to implement the resolution.
