Toyota has officially unveiled its much-anticipated Land Cruiser FJ, a compact off-road SUV that brings the spirit of adventure in a smaller and more accessible package. The new model is scheduled for public debut at the Japan Mobility Show later this month, ahead of full market launch in mid-2026.

The all-new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is smaller than the Land Cruiser 250, measuring 180.1 inches in length, 73 inches in height, and 77.2 inches in width. The compact off-road SUV has a wheelbase of 101.6 inches, about 11 inches shorter than the larger counterpart. It shares a platform with the Toyota Hilux Champ, combining rugged utility with compact design proportions to offer ideal performance in both on-road and off-road conditions.
The FJ is powered by a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine capable of churning out 161 horsepower and 181 lb ft of torque, paired with a six-speed transmission and a part-time four-wheel drive system. While the engine output focuses more on practicality than performance, Toyota has tried to offer a model that promises both reliability and multi-terrain navigation capability.

Similar to Hilux Champ, the FJ Cruiser gets MOLLE panels for attaching outdoor gear and can also be equipped with accessories like a snorkel for water crossing. Additionally, the front and rear corner bumpers are removable and replaceable, allowing drivers to replace the damaged parts during off-roading.
In terms of design, the Land Cruiser FJ continues to feature Toyota’s off-road heritage. It has a boxy silhouette, round LED headlights, chunky wheel arches, and a rear-mounted spare wheel tire echo that resembles the classic Land Cruiser while also adding a modern and youthful touch. Inside the cabin, the FJ offers Toyota’s latest design language with a large central touchscreen, robust gear selector, and functional, upright dashboard layout for rugged utility.
Along with the Land Cruiser FJ, Toyota is also reportedly developing the Land Hopper, an electric off-road vehicle designed to explore areas beyond where the Land Cruiser can take you. However, the information about the Toyota Land Hopper is scarce and is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
