Holidays and celebrations are upon us, and as the new year draws near, several businesses are reducing their activities. However, there are many events taking place in the automotive sector, including drive-ins, product displays, and launch parties. A brief overview of some of the most recent announcements and events related to motoring is provided here.
Another day, yet another brand-new Chinese car! We attended the unveiling of yet another SUV line from the Far Eastern nation just last week. It was the brand-new Chery Tiggo8 Pro Max, Tiggo8 Pro PHEV, and Tiggo7 Pro Max for 2024. Cars Café and the nearby Dubai Autodrome facility hosted the grand reveal.
Built on Chery's T1X platform, which is linked to globally recognized suppliers Bosch and Benteler, the all-new Tiggo8 Pro Max is the brand's flagship SUV. Because of its eye-catching, optically illusion-like grille, LED lights, and rear luminaries that harken back to a certain German luxury car, the mid-size SUV is designed to appear more handsome than its price tag suggests.
The Tiggo8 PHEV and the Tiggo7 Pro Max are also compatible with this theme. With its ranking in the "China Best Ten Engine" category, the 2.0TGDI engine powers this SUV. With a claimed output of 254 horsepower and a peak torque of 390 Nm, it can reach the maximum fuel efficiency of 7.39 liters per 100 kilometers and reach the ton in 7 seconds.
With a 1.5TCI engine, the plug-in hybrid Tiggo8 has an amazing 100 km of EV range overall and can travel up to 900 km. It can also reach a respectable speed of 7.6 seconds or less from 0 to 100 km/h. The 1.6-liter turbocharged engine powering the smaller Tiggo7 Pro Max produces 197 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque. A 7-speed DCT is used by all three models to multiply torque and distribute power to all four corners.
A 64-hue ambient lighting system, a 10-speaker Sony speaker system (eight units for the Tiggo7), and two seamlessly integrated 12.3-inch screens (a total of 24.6 inches) were among the impressive features of the leather-clad interiors of the models on display. We were particularly interested in the 50W wireless fast charger, the Queen's passenger seat (in the Tiggo8), which lifts the calf cushions for a more comfortable sitting position, and the surprisingly compliant voice control features.
On a small portion of the Dubai Autodrome track, we were able to test out the SUVs. Although the hybrid wasn't responding well to our input, the Tiggo8 Pro Max was fast enough for its price. This shouldn't interfere with its plans to transport families, though. Out of all of them, the Tiggo7 proved to be the most animated.
The Tiggo8 and Tiggo7 models have starting prices of Dh98,500 and Dh82,500, respectively.
