The third-gen Honda Amaze will debut in December 2024.
It will use a modified version of the City’s platform, adapted for its smaller size.
Retains the 1.2-liter petrol engine with 90hp and 110Nm of torque, available with CVT or 5-speed manual transmission.
The new Amaze will not offer a diesel engine, reflecting changes in the Indian market.
Despite a shift in market trends towards SUVs and hatchbacks, the Amaze remains important in India, where it makes up about 25% of Honda's sales.
Honda has postponed the launch of the third-generation Amaze to December 2024, which was originally scheduled for October. The Amaze, first introduced in 2013 and followed by a second-generation model in 2018, saw its Brio counterpart discontinued in 2016 due to low demand.
The next-generation Honda Amaze will use a modified version of the platform found in the City and Elevate SUV. This adapted platform will fit the shorter size of the Amaze, which has a 2470 mm wheelbase compared to the City's 2600 mm. Using this shared platform will help Honda save on costs.
The third-gen Honda Amaze will keep the 1.2-liter petrol engine with 90 hp and 110 Nm of torque, available with a CVT automatic or a 5-speed manual. Diesel engines are no longer offered, so only petrol versions will be available.
In India, where the Amaze is popular, around 23,000 to 24,000 compact sedans are sold each month, with Maruti Suzuki leading the market. As sedans become less popular compared to hatchbacks and SUVs, and are increasingly used as taxis, Honda has lowered its annual production target for the Amaze from 56,000 to 40,000 units. The Amaze is Honda's entry-level model in India and makes up about 25% of the brand's total sales.
The third-generation Honda Amaze, debuting in December 2024, will maintain its popular 1.2-liter petrol engine and transmission choices while transitioning away from diesel. Utilizing a modified platform from the Honda City, the new Amaze aims to offer cost efficiencies and adapt to the evolving market. Despite a reduction in production targets, it remains crucial for Honda's presence in India, where it continues to be a significant contributor to the brand's sales.
