Mercedes-AMG has expanded its electric performance lineup with the new AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupé, positioned as the most practical and range-focused model in the brand’s all-electric GT 4-Door family.

Sitting below the more powerful GT 55 and GT 63, the GT 53 combines 544 hp, 800 Nm of torque, dual-motor all-wheel drive and an 800-volt electrical architecture. Its biggest advantage, however, is range: Mercedes-AMG claims up to 809 km of WLTP range, making it the longest-range model in the lineup.

The new electric AMG also introduces a two-speed transmission and supports ultra-fast DC charging, giving the GT 53 a stronger focus on everyday usability without abandoning AMG performance.

544 HP From a Dual-Motor Electric Powertrain

The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing a combined 400 kW (544 hp) and 800 Nm of torque.

The setup differs significantly from the tri-motor configuration used by the more powerful GT 55 and GT 63. Instead of constantly driving all four wheels, the rear electric motor handles most driving duties, while the front motor primarily provides additional power and traction when required.

This strategy allows AMG to prioritize efficiency without sacrificing serious acceleration.

The GT 53 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 3.5 seconds, with rollout included.

Performance at a Glance

AMG also says the motors can deliver up to 270 kW (367 hp) continuously, helping maintain performance during sustained driving rather than only delivering a short burst of peak power.

Two-Speed Gearbox Adds a Different EV Character

One of the GT 53's standout technical features is its two-speed transmission.

The first gear uses an 11:1 ratio to improve acceleration and low-speed response, while the second gear uses a taller 5:1 ratio for more relaxed and efficient highway driving.

The system automatically selects the appropriate gear depending on the selected driving mode and driving conditions.

Mercedes-AMG is also giving the GT 53 an AMGFORCE S+ driving program, which uses digitally generated sound to provide an artificial performance soundtrack inspired by the character of the previous inline-six-powered AMG E 53.

800-Volt Battery Delivers Up to 809 km of Range

The GT 53 uses the same 800-volt electrical architecture found in its more powerful siblings.

Power comes from a 106 kWh usable battery, featuring directly cooled cylindrical cells designed to improve thermal management.

The biggest advantage of the GT 53's lighter dual-motor configuration is its efficiency.

Mercedes-AMG claims a maximum WLTP range of 809 km (503 miles). Depending on wheels, equipment and driving conditions, the official range can fall to around 682 km (424 miles).

This makes the GT 53 particularly interesting for buyers who value long-distance usability alongside AMG performance.

600 kW Charging Could Add 534 km in 10 Minutes

Charging performance is another major highlight.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 supports up to 600 kW DC fast charging when connected to a compatible 800-volt charger. AMG claims that more than 534 km of range can be added in around 10 minutes under ideal conditions.

The vehicle can also work with 400-volt charging infrastructure, improving compatibility with a wider range of public charging networks.

Of course, the headline charging figures depend on charger capability, battery temperature, state of charge and other conditions.

GT 53 vs GT 55 vs GT 63

The GT 53 may be the entry point, but AMG's electric GT 4-Door range stretches much further up the performance ladder.

Rather than simply being the least powerful model, the GT 53 is arguably the most efficiency-focused version of the electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupé.

Mercedes-AMG GT 53 Price and Availability

Mercedes-AMG has confirmed a starting price of €115,430 in Germany, including VAT.

Sales in Germany are scheduled to open on August 13, 2026, while customer deliveries have already started in some markets.

Right-hand-drive versions, including the UK-market car, are expected later in the year.

Mercedes-AMG has not yet confirmed an India launch for the GT 53.
