Compact sports car fans can rejoice as rumors suggest the Suzuki Cappuccino's return after 26 years. This iconic car's comeback, in collaboration with Daihatsu and Toyota, promises a blend of modern engineering and nostalgic appeal.
The Suzuki Cappuccino, produced from 1991 to 1998, was designed as a Kei car for the Japanese market. Its powertrain and compact size complied with Kei car regulations, attracting a large fan base due to its impressive driving capabilities despite modest performance.
The upcoming Suzuki Cappuccino is expected to feature a larger 1.3-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine, an upgrade from its predecessor's 657cc unit. Based on the engine in the GR Corolla and GR Yaris, it is anticipated to produce around 110 kW, a substantial increase from the original Cappuccino's 47 kW output. This enhancement aims to attract a new generation of drivers with improved performance capabilities.
The new Cappuccino will measure approximately 1700 mm in width, 4000 mm in length, and 1230 mm in height, maintaining the compact dimensions of its predecessor. With a weight of around 1100 kg, it promises dynamic driving and agile handling. Transmission options are expected to include an eight-speed automatic and a six-speed manual.
The 1.3-litre engine used by the Cappuccino will not be solely for this variant. As per reports, this engine will also be utilized by Toyota in a new entry-level sports car. As per the speculations the revived Suzuki Cappuccino will make its debut by 2027.
