Subaru is all set to launch two of its highly anticipated models at this year's New York Auto Show. These launches include a redesigned 2026 Subaru Outback and the second electric Surabu, the Trailseeker EV, to expand its EV lineup that currently has Soletrra.
There could be major design upgrades and a new powertrain option to reinforce this flagship crossover wagon while maintaining practicality. The upcoming Subaru Outback will likely feature a boxy profile and an SUV-inspired silhouette, which is already clear from a teaser image revealed by the brand.
Surabu has also focused on offering off-road-ready capabilities in its 2026 Outback and major changes in interior specifications to offer customers better comfort. However, the automaker has yet to announce the details about the interior features. Some reports also predict that the 2026 Outback can be offered with a 2.4-liter turbocharged Boxer engine delivering 260 horsepower and an all-new hybrid (possibly PHEV) variant with a similar horsepower capacity to the ICE variant. Subaru may retain symmetrical AWD across all variants.
The second electric car from Subaru will be the Trailseeker EV, which is designed for adventure enthusiasts to offer them rugged electric performance. With the teaser images, it's clear that the EV will receive aggressive bumper and angular taillights and have an off-road-ready design. It will be built on the e-Subaru Global Platform as available in Solterra EV. Since it will be an off-road vehicle, the automaker can offer its signature all-wheel drive system.
Additionally, the Trailseeker EV is anticipated to get a dual motor setup delivering a power output of 220-300 horsepower and supporting a 150+ kW DC fast charger. This electric off-roader could also range 450-515 km on a single charge.
While both models look promising and are game-changing launches for Subaru, the Outback looks promising for conventional car owners looking for a better design profile and a hybrid option. On the other hand, the Trailseeker seems to be a great match for EV adopters looking for power and performance.
Subaru aims to extend its EV lineup by 2026 and see around 4 models for global customers. It will leverage Toyota's bZ4X tech offered in the Solterra EV. The automaker also aims to introduce over-the-air updates for software enhancements.
