Secret Service Orders 250 Cadillac Escalade SUVs to Modernize Protective Fleet

Secret Service to Receive 250 Cadillac Escalade SUVs in Major Fleet Upgrade, Says Trump

President Donald Trump has announced that the U.S. Secret Service will receive 250 Cadillac Escalade SUVs as part of a major modernization of its protective vehicle fleet. The new SUVs are expected to replace the aging Chevrolet Suburbans that have long served in presidential motorcades.

Trump made the announcement on July 27, 2026, during a visit to General Motors' Milford Proving Ground in Michigan. However, General Motors has not officially confirmed the order, referring questions to the White House, while the Secret Service has yet to comment on the reported fleet size.

Key Highlights

  • 250 Cadillac Escalades announced to modernize the U.S. Secret Service's protective vehicle fleet.
  • New SUVs will replace aging Chevrolet Suburbans used in presidential motorcades.
  • Government-spec Escalades will feature heavy ballistic armor, bullet-resistant glass, and reinforced mechanical components.
  • President Donald Trump announced the order during his visit to GM's Milford Proving Ground in Michigan.
  • The reported 250-unit order remains unconfirmed, as neither General Motors nor the Secret Service has officially verified the announcement.

A New Generation of Secret Service SUVs

The Cadillac Escalade is expected to become the new backbone of Secret Service motorcades. Interestingly, many of the Escalades currently seen in presidential convoys are modified Chevrolet Suburbans fitted with older Escalade body panels. The new fleet is expected to feature the latest-generation Escalade from the factory.

Speaking at the event, Trump said:

"We ordered 250 Escalades. We look sharp in those Escalades."

Earlier this year, an armored current-generation Escalade was also spotted carrying Trump during the World Economic Forum in Davos, suggesting the transition had already begun.

Built for Security

Unlike showroom models, the Secret Service Escalades will receive extensive upgrades to withstand high-risk situations. Expected modifications include:

  • Full-body ballistic armor

  • Bullet-resistant glass

  • Reinforced truck-based chassis

  • Heavy-duty 8-lug axles

  • Upgraded suspension and braking systems

  • Secure communications equipment

These changes significantly increase the vehicle's weight and require commercial-grade mechanical components for reliable performance.

Cost and Production

A standard Cadillac Escalade starts at around $91,100, while the Escalade-V costs roughly $170,000. However, government-spec armored versions are expected to cost substantially more due to specialized engineering and security equipment.

At base retail pricing alone, 250 Escalades would be worth nearly $23 million, excluding armor, communications systems, and other classified modifications.

The announcement also aligns with GM's continued investment in U.S. manufacturing, with the company planning to invest around $9 billion across its American operations in 2026.

Awaiting Official Confirmation

Although the announcement has generated widespread attention, the 250-unit figure currently comes solely from President Trump's remarks. Neither General Motors nor the Secret Service has publicly confirmed the size, value, or delivery timeline of the order.

If confirmed, the new Cadillac Escalade fleet would represent one of the most significant upgrades to the Secret Service's protective vehicles in recent years, bringing modern technology, enhanced protection, and improved capability to future presidential motorcades.
