Adrian Newey is the mastermind controlling Formula 1, particularly known for Red Bull's recent dominance. For those unfamiliar with F1, Newey is the driving force behind Red Bull’s success. News of his departure has sparked numerous theories about his next move.
Amid all the speculation, Newey has surprised everyone—not with plans for his post-Red Bull career in early 2025, but with his long-anticipated hypercar project. Introducing the RB17 hypercar.

Let's start with the headline figures because that's what you're here for (we know). The RB17 features a 4.5-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine, developed by Cosworth, paired with an electric motor. The electric motor alone produces 200 horsepower, while the V10 delivers an astonishing 1,000 horsepower. It can rev up to an incredible 15,000 rpm. Yes, you read that right – fifteen thousand RPM. All this power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox and an active limited-slip differential that can lock hydraulically.
Oh, and before we forget, it weighs only 900kg. That's less than its horsepower. Think about that for a moment.
This incredible weight-saving is due to the hypercar's carbon fiber two-seater monocoque.

The RB17 is designed for drivers of all skill levels, featuring advanced active suspension and aerodynamic systems. The adjustable ride height optimizes mechanical balance and roll characteristics, while the front and rear wings have movable parts that adapt to various track conditions and driving styles. The car can achieve up to 1,700 kg of downforce (almost double its weight) due to its ground-effect skirts. The RB17 represents the culmination of Adrian Newey's F1 expertise and the efforts of the Red Bull Advanced Technologies team of 120 engineers who worked with him on the project.
The RB17 also features hydraulic power steering, traction control, and an anti-lock braking system (ABS) paired with carbon-carbon brakes. Drivers can choose between 18-inch carbon fiber wheels with custom Michelin slicks or 20-inch wheels with treaded tires, allowing for a personalized driving experience.

The RB17 comes with various customizable options such as seat configurations, an adjustable pedal box, and built-in storage for items like race suits and helmets. It runs on regular pump gas and includes a warranty of 2 years or 4,000 kilometers, whichever comes first. Remarkably, the manufacturer claims the car can handle a 24-hour race without needing any servicing.
For regular maintenance, owners can have their RB17 serviced at Red Bull's headquarters, a local service center, or even by a technician at their location. Major services are needed every 8,000 kilometers (about 5,000 miles) and must be done at the company's headquarters to ensure top performance.

Only 50 units will be produced, with track testing still pending before deliveries begin. Since Newey and Red Bull aimed to create the ultimate track car, the RB17 isn't eligible for any motor racing series. Instead, Red Bull will host private racing events for the owners.
Adrian Newey revealed the RB17 at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, alongside Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner and Red Bull Advanced Technologies Technical Director Rob Gray.
Newey, both proud and emotional, stated: “I’ve been thinking about creating our own hypercar for years. Designing the RB17 from concept to delivery has been an incredible journey. Today, unveiling it is truly remarkable.
“The RB17 Hypercar represents our values: power, speed, and beauty. It’s versatile and designed as a two-seater to share the thrill of F1 speeds with a friend or partner.”
The RB17 is Newey's grand finale with Red Bull, and it’s an impressive one.
RB17 hypercar marks Adrian Newey’s crowning achievement with Red Bull Racing. Unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, it embodies power, speed, and elegance, designed for thrilling rides at F1 speeds. It’s a fitting farewell before Newey parts ways with Red Bull, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and passion in motorsport.
