Another day, another Mercedes-AMG outrageous creation. The brand's flagship SL roadster was the focus of the performance tuning house's attention this time. The outcome is the SL63 S E Performance, Mercedes-Benz's most potent convertible to date.
Based on the SL63, the plug-in hybrid roadster is currently the highest-spec model available for the SL. To manage the incredible power from the hybrid drivetrain inspired by Formula One, it has a few design tweaks and performance enhancements.

The 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo petrol engine from the SL63, which produces 605 horsepower and 850 Nm, is carried over to the performance roadster. The engine's maximum power and peak torque are 816 horsepower and 1,420 Nm, respectively, when combined with the E Performance hybrid powertrain, which consists of a 150kW motor and 6.1kWh battery pack.
The brand's 4Matic+ AWD system and a 9-speed automatic transmission are paired with the hybrid powertrain. As a result, the SL63 S E Performance can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 317 km/h.
Additionally, the electric motor enables up to 13 km of all-electric travel on a single charge. With the 3.7kW on-board AC charger, the battery can be charged.

Most of the features and design are carried over from the SL63. But the lightweight AMG alloy wheels, which have been aerodynamically optimized, are new for the E Performance and come in 20- and 21-inch sizes.
The model name is highlighted in red on the rear section, which also has an integrated plug-in charging flap. A plethora of paints and specific equipment specifications are offered, in addition to the unique MANUFAKTUR program for additional personalization.
The SL63 S E Performance hasn't undergone any notable internal modifications. To provide the best in-car cabin experience, it still has two screens (11.9-inch infotainment and 12.3-inch instrument cluster) and the newest MBUX AI assistant technology. To further improve the athletic experience, customers can opt for the optional AMG performance seats with integrated headrests and ventilation.
The SL63 S E Performance is evidence that driving thrills and sustainability can coexist. In the age of sustainable mobility, the speed demons won't go extinct.
