Nissan is reportedly gearing up to unveil its two all-new electric vehicles in 2025 as part of its electrification plans. These flagship launches include a refreshed version of Micra, a next-generation LEAF, and an updated version of e-POWER hybrid tech. The Japanese automaker has also confirmed its fully electric JUKE debut in FY2026.
The new generation Nissan Micra is set to make its comeback in 2025 but as a fully electric hatchback. This flagship Nissan hatchback is designed at Nissan Design Europe in London and rides on the AmpR small platform. It's the same architecture used in Renault's upcoming R5 EV. This compact EV is expected to get two battery options, 40kWh and 52kWh. The Micra EV provides a maximum range of 400 km on a single charge.
Additionally, its production will commence in the Ampere ElectriCity plant in Douai, France, while European sales are expected to begin by the end of 2025. In the UAE, the Nissan Micra stood out as a rental favorite in recent months, and with the electric option, it's likely to attract the eyeballs of possible customers.
The third-generation LEAF EV is also confirmed to debut in 2025. It's one of the flagship EVs in the market and was kicked off the mainstream EV movement in 2010. The upcoming Nissan LEAF is said to have a more elegant and sleeker profile and enhanced range compared to standard models. The EV is based on the CMF-EV platform found in the Nissan Ariya.
The European spec LEAF will be manufactured in Nissan's Sunderland plant in the UK, developed into a major electric vehicle manufacturing hub under the company's EV36Zero initiative. In the UAE, Nissan has teased its LEAF EV several times but hasn't officially launched it yet.
Nissan's e-Power hybrid system is announced to be updated this year. Following the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen, continuous improvement, the new version of the e-POWER system will be even more efficient and refined.
The technology uses a petrol engine to charge the electric motor instead of plugging into the electric charger, offering more range than standard EV models. The technology will continue to be offered in models like Qashqai and X-Trail. Nissan has already sold around 250000 e-POWER-equipped vehicles in Europe.
The third generation of Juke Electric is also confirmed to launch in 2026. The crossover will be introduced as a pure electric vehicle. The new-gen JUKE EV can borrow inspiration from the aggressively designed Hyper Punk concept showcased in the 2023 Japan Mobility Show.
From the new Micra to the LEAF EV, these electric vehicles from Nissan are designed for European markets. Hence, these are unlikely to debut in the UAE or GCC regions.
