The all-new MG4 EV hatchback has been unveiled in China. The 2025 MG4 is a SAIC-made model and will be available in the global market, making it MG's first model for this year. The official launch revealed that this new hatchback EV will replace the existing MG4 electric, which witnessed slow sales in China. Despite China, MG vehicles are popular in global markets and see good customer response for its latest models, including the MG EV.
The new MG4 EV boasts a light purple exterior with white pillars and a roofline. It has LED headlights and a sporty bumper on the rear side with a trapeze-shaped air intake. The sculpted fenders add to its visual appeal. SAIC made this electric hatchback with a charging port in the left front fender.
The new MG4 has conventional doorknobs rather than modern flush door handles, adding a sense of practicality. There are 17-inch five-spoke rims that increase the air drag of the model. Based on the new design and styling, the automaker has focused on practicality and exterior styling to better engage with target customers and ensure better sales figures.
The EV has a roof spoiler with an integrated braking light on the rear profile, a rear wiper, and two arrow-shaped taillights connected with LED strips. The 2025 MG4 EV also receives a minimalistic rear bumper and independent suspension in the rear axle. With all these refreshed styling and additions, the new MG4 EV looks completely different from old models, now positioning a place to rival BYD Dolphin, Wuling Bingo, Aion UT, and Geely Xingyuan in China.
The new MG4 measures 4395 mm in length, 1842 mm in width, and 1551 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2750 mm, around 108 mm longer than the predecessor's. The vehicle also receives a single TZ180XZS1001 electric motor capable of delivering 161 horsepower. The old MG4 EV, on the other hand, can deliver 168 horsepower, while the high-spec Xpower 4WD model churns out 422 hp.
Regarding power output, SAIC has made cuts to keep the pricing competitive. In terms of performance, the new MG4 EV can deliver a top speed of 160 km/h and features a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from Rept Battery Energy. The vehicle has an overall curb weight of 1485 kg.
While the new MG4 EV has already been unveiled in China, it will make its official debut by early April, possibly at the Shanghai Auto Show. It is expected to arrive in Europe and other global markets by October 2025.
