Tesla is ready to launch a new six-seater variant of its Model Y SUV in China. The extended version of Tesla's flagship SUV in China will be sold as Model Y L, where L represents the longer or extended version of the standard model. Tesla Model Y L will have a longer wheelbase, more cargo and interior space, and enhanced motor power. The American EV giant has scheduled the launch for autumn 2025.

One of the major highlights of Tesla Model Y L is its longer dimension, measuring 4,976 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, 1,668 mm in height, and 3040 mm in wheelbase (150mm longer than the regular version).
While the 5-seater version weighs 1,992 kg, the six-seater variant will have a curb weight of 2,088 kg. The EV will continue to be powered by ternary NMC batteries sourced from LG and a dual motor setup. It will feature a 142 kW electric motor at the front and a 198 kW motor at the rear to produce 340 kW (or 456 horsepower) of combined power output. The Tesla Model Y L is said to deliver a top speed of 201 km/h.

It is important to note that the Tesla Model Y 5-seater (the standard version) also gets a dual motor setup but has a maximum power delivery capability of 331 horsepower. The 5-seater Model Y measures 4,797 mm in length, 1,624 mm in height, and has 1,992 kg of curb weight, indicating the extended version not only has an increased wheelbase but also more legroom and headroom inside the cabin.
In China, the Model Y is Tesla's best-selling model with sales of about 480,309 units in 2024, contributing 74.6% to Tesla's sales in the country. However, its sales in the first half of 2025 dropped by 17.5% YoY even after Tesla introduced the facelifted Juniper version, securing the total sales of 171,491 units.
China's electric vehicle market is filled with several high-value electric SUVs, including Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, BYD Sealion 7, BMW iX3, Lucid Gravity, Nissan Ariya, and Audi Q4 e-tron.
As of now, there is no confirmation if Tesla will launch the Model Y L in the UAE market. The model is specifically designed and developed for the Chinese market. However, considering the demand for Tesla cars in the UAE, it's likely that the new model could arrive in the country through deal imports.
