Crafting a vehicle that pays homage to the past while establishing a strong emotional and business case is a challenging task, and the Cyberster accomplishes this balance.
The British-origin brand MG has a storied legacy in crafting sports coupes that epitomized nimble, lightweight vehicles, showcasing the excellence of British automotive engineering. Emerging as the spiritual successor to the legendary MGB coupe, the Cyberster represents a fusion of heritage and modern electrification in a contemporary form.
To mark its centenary, MG is enthusiastically embarking on a 10,000-mile road trip. The expedition kicks off at Westminster Bridge in the UK and includes visits to Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia (Riyadh and Jeddah), Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, and the UAE (Dubai and Abu Dhabi) in January.
Taking the driver's seat on this adventurous journey are the dynamic duo of Ross and Hugo Turner. Their mission is to explore cultural diversity while showcasing MG's cutting-edge technology as they embark on this expedition.
The Cyberster is characterized by its meticulous attention to detail, featuring a low and assertive posture, distinctive scissor doors, and tail lights designed like directional arrows for clear signaling. Adding to the dramatic flair are robust rear haunches, contributing to its sporty appeal. The car's appearance is the result of collaborative efforts between MG's London design studio and the design studio of its parent company, SAIC Motor, based in Shanghai.

Beyond its outward appearance, the real power of the Cyberster resides beneath its surface—a potent 77 kWh electric motor that propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h in an astonishing 3.2 seconds. Alternatively, for those seeking a less intense driving experience, there is a 64 kWh motor option available, ensuring a more measured acceleration while still accomplishing the task effectively.
As bold as the car itself, the adventurous twins have previously navigated transcontinental journeys through the vast landscapes of the Atlantic. Now, eagerly anticipating their Middle-Eastern adventure, they are poised to check off another unique experience from their bucket list as they explore the region when the gates open for them.
The high-speed coupe is scheduled to make its presence felt on Middle-Eastern roads from January 14th to February 19th, immersing itself in the rich local culture while establishing a robust foundation for MG's forthcoming electric vehicles. The expedition also aims to assess the electric vehicle infrastructure in the Middle East. The car will be showcased against iconic landmarks in each of the Middle-Eastern nations.

Expressing their purpose and commitment to innovation, Ross Turner stated, "Embarking on a thrilling chapter of our 10,000-mile global road trip, exploring various Middle Eastern countries in the Cyberster is our mission. We look forward to sharing this electrifying exploration experience with communities and enthusiasts, contributing to the ushering in of a new era."
Tom Lee, the Managing Director of MG Motor's operations in the Middle East, remarked, "The MG Cyberster's journey through the Middle East serves as a showcase of the region's preparedness for electric vehicles, utilizing the available electric charging infrastructure. This expedition also represents a significant milestone, as the MG brand celebrates its 100th anniversary, spotlighting the capabilities of the vintage-inspired Cyberster to communities and enthusiasts throughout the region."
While many car manufacturers are predominantly concentrating on producing SUVs, MG has distinguished itself by adding a noteworthy coupe to its lineup. This unique offering provides enthusiasts and customers with a blend of style, power, and comfort, standing out in the crowd and fulfilling the dream of open-top cruising for a diverse audience. Crafting something that pays homage to the past while establishing a compelling emotional and business case is a challenging endeavor, but Cyberster has successfully and impressively achieved this.
Verdict
MG's decision to break away from the conventional focus on SUVs and introduce a distinctive coupe in its lineup proves to be a noteworthy move. The Cyberster stands out by offering a unique blend of panache, power, and comfort, appealing to both enthusiasts and a broader customer base.
With its standout design and the fulfillment of the dream of open-top cruising, the Cyberster not only adds a touch of nostalgia but also showcases MG's ability to strike a balance between tradition and innovation. This coupe not only marks a significant departure from the norm but also underscores MG's commitment to providing a diverse and captivating driving experience for a wide range of individuals.
