Mercedes-Benz's New GLA Brings Hybrid Power, 657 km EV Range, and a Stunning New Look

[The all-new GLA features a sharper design, smarter technology, and a choice of hybrid or fully electric power]

Mercedes-Benz Reinvents the GLA: New Hybrid and Electric SUV Debuts With Up to 657 km Range

Mercedes-Benzhas taken the wraps off the all-new GLA, giving its premium compact SUV a major redesign inside and out while expanding its electrified lineup. The latest generation arrives with two distinct powertrain choices—a mild-hybrid petrol model and a fully electric version—offering buyers greater flexibility as the brand continues its transition toward electric mobility.

The new GLA adopts Mercedes-Benz's latest design language, introduces a more technology-focused cabin, and delivers significantly improved electric driving capability. While pricing and launch schedules for individual markets are yet to be announced, the global debut marks an important step for the German luxury automaker in the competitive compact SUV segment.

Key Highlights

  • New-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA unveiled with mild-hybrid petrol and all-electric powertrains

  • Fresh design features illuminated grille, connected LED taillights, and flush door handles

  • Optional MBUX Superscreen brings a three-display digital cockpit

  • Electric GLA offers up to 657 km of claimed driving range

  • Supports 320 kW DC fast charging

  • Mild-hybrid petrol version gets a 1.5-litre turbo engine with 48V technology

Bold New Exterior Design

The new GLA features a sharper and more premium appearance inspired by Mercedes-Benz's latest family of SUVs.

At the front, the SUV receives a larger illuminated grille paired with redesigned LED headlamps featuring signature star-shaped daytime running lights. The updated face gives the GLA a more distinctive road presence while aligning it with Mercedes' newest electric and combustion-powered models.

The rear has also been completely redesigned with connected LED taillights stretching across the tailgate and a new dual-tone bumper that adds a sportier touch.

Mercedes-Benz has also introduced flush-fitting door handles that improve both aerodynamics and styling. Depending on the variant, buyers can choose alloy wheels ranging from 18 to 20 inches.

A Cabin Built Around Technology

Inside, the biggest highlight is the optional MBUX Superscreen, transforming the dashboard into a fully digital environment.

The setup includes:

Display

Digital Instrument Cluster

10.25 inches

Central Infotainment Screen

14 inches

Front Passenger Display

The system provides an immersive user experience with high-resolution graphics and enhanced connectivity for both the driver and passenger.

Luxury features remain a key focus and include:

  • Burmester premium sound system

  • Ambient interior lighting

  • Panoramic sunroof

  • 360-degree camera system

  • Optional Transparent Bonnet function, which digitally displays the ground beneath the front of the vehicle for improved visibility during off-road driving or tight parking situations.

Efficient Mild-Hybrid Petrol Power

For buyers not yet ready to switch to a fully electric vehicle, Mercedes-Benz continues to offer a petrol-powered GLA equipped with mild-hybrid technology.

The SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. This setup improves efficiency, supports smoother acceleration, and enhances stop-start performance.

Power is sent through an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, with both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations available depending on the chosen variant.

Electric GLA Delivers Strong Performance

The fully electric GLA will be offered with two battery options.

Battery Capacity

Claimed Range

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed three electric variants:

Dual-motor AWD

The GLA 250 is designed for efficiency, while the GLA 250+ offers additional performance. At the top of the range sits the GLA 350, combining dual electric motors with all-wheel drive to produce 349 BHP and 515 Nm of torque for stronger acceleration and improved traction.

Another standout feature is its 320 kW DC fast-charging capability, placing it among the quickest-charging electric SUVs in its class.

Mercedes' Dual-Powertrain Strategy

Rather than forcing customers to choose only electric mobility, Mercedes-Benz is continuing its dual-powertrain strategy by offering both hybrid and fully electric versions of the GLA. This approach gives buyers the freedom to select the drivetrain that best suits their lifestyle and local charging infrastructure while supporting the company's long-term electrification goals.

The redesigned GLA also strengthens Mercedes-Benz's position in the premium compact SUV market by combining luxury, digital innovation, improved efficiency, and competitive electric performance in one model range.

Launch Details

The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLA has made its global debut, but the company has not yet announced pricing or launch timelines for individual markets. The unveiling is expected to be followed by region-specific announcements over the coming months, including details on variant availability and market-specific specifications.

With its refreshed styling, high-tech cabin, hybrid efficiency, and an electric driving range of up to 657 km, the next-generation GLA is set to become one of Mercedes-Benz's most important compact luxury SUVs in the years ahead.
