Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed that it has initiated the next stage of automotive manufacturing by producing a new CLA in the Rastatt plant. As part of consistently leveraging the “Digital First” approach, the Germany-based luxury automobile manufacturer has integrated cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, the digital twin, and the Mercedes-Benz operating system (MB.OS) into its MO360 digital production ecosystem.

Mercedes-Benz has made a significant investment in the Rastatt plant and has now decided to initially roll out the new generation of electric CLAs. The plant will benefit from the equipped network of German sites supplying critical components, like the electric drive units and axles from Stuttgart-Untertürkheim, the bodyshell components will be supplied by Kuppenheim, and batteries from Kamenz.
The automaker has developed its Rastatt facility to utilize the Digital First approach and make it capable of rolling out vehicles of the future. A virtual simulation helped the company revamp the assembly hall for the swift and efficient setup of the new production line. The method will also improve efficiency by reducing construction time and production costs.

The interesting thing about Mercedes-Benz’s Rastatt plant is that it has also become carbon neutral and runs completely on clean energy like other production sites of the company. The plant comprises heat recovery systems, smart lighting, and a new generation of energy-saving robots, all of which contribute to the savings of over 15 GWh of energy.
