The Kia PBV strategy represents a modular approach that demonstrates the brand's dedication to flexibility and adaptability in its forthcoming range of vehicles.
Kia is employing a mixed production methodology to establish a specialized PBV facility in Autoland Hwaseong, Korea.
During CES 2024, Kia unveiled its Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) strategy, aiming to offer customizable, purpose-built electric vehicles for both individuals and businesses. The company showcased the Concept PV5 as a demonstration of the PBV business potential. This modular strategy underscores Kia's dedication to flexibility and adaptability in its forthcoming vehicle offerings.

At CES 2024, Kia presented its vision and introduced a multi-phase system with the potential to revolutionize the mobility sector. Aligned with Hyundai Motor Group's objectives in robotics, Kia views the PBV strategy as a highly effective mobility solution, integrating purpose-built electric vehicles with cutting-edge software driven by Hyundai Motor Group's software-to-everything (SDx) strategy.

Kia says the PBV can redefine lifestyles and spatial experiences by providing customized interiors. CEO Ho Sung Song highlighted the company's vision to extend beyond conventional vehicles, aiming to stimulate business innovation and cater to various customer requirements.

The PBV system is structured in three stages, commencing with the debut of the Kia PV5, an electric vehicle designed for versatile applications and straightforward operation. The second phase involves finalizing the model range, implementing real-time vehicle updates, and improving user engagement through AI-based platforms.

In the third phase, Kia aims to create highly adaptable mobility solutions, integrating a connected self-driving vehicle system into PBV models within a smart city operating system. Moreover, Kia plans to utilize "Easy Swap," enabling a single-vehicle chassis to meet various mobility requirements.

Kia's PBV strategy incorporates adaptable 'life modules,' enabling the PBV to effortlessly transform into a recreational vehicle, delivery van, or taxi. The Dynamic Hybrid body structure ensures that rigidity is maintained without any compromise. Kia is prioritizing environmental sustainability by utilizing recycled materials and bioplastics. The PBV ecosystem encourages meaningful interaction among various models, presenting diverse layouts. Additionally, Kia intends to collaborate with Motional to create a robotaxi as part of its future plans.
Kia is adopting a hybrid manufacturing strategy to establish a specialized PBV facility in Autoland Hwaseong, Korea, set to be operational by 2025. The facility will integrate cell-based and conveyor methods, boasting an annual capacity of 150,000 units. This underscores Kia's dedication to fulfilling the increasing demand for PBVs.
