China's tech giant Huawei and leading automobile manufacturer Chery have introduced the latest addition to their Luxeed electric vehicle lineup. The new Luxeed R7 was launched in China under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) to stand out and lead the growing segment of smart electric vehicles (EVs). The new R7 is available in two trims, Max and Ultra, and promises a longer driving range for its customers.

Currently, the Luxeed R7 is available in China and is likely to hit the UAE automobile market as the market share for Chery vehicles is rising in the region. The R7 Max trim in China is priced at 299,800 yuan (approximately AED 151,800), and the top-spec Ultra trim is offered at 319,800 yuan (approximately AED 162,000).
The extended-range electric vehicle, Luxeed R7, is built on Huawei's advanced 400V Giant Whale architecture and equips a highly efficient range-extended powertrain unit. The Max variant features a 227 kW rear electric motor that delivers 304 horsepower, while the Ultra variant gains an additional 155 kW front motor, resulting in a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup. This allows the R7 Ultra to produce 512 horsepower and achieve a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.9 seconds.
The R7 also supports a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder range-extender engine and a 53.4 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery. With its integration, the Max trim offers a 360 km pure electric range and a combined range of up to 1,673 km, while the Ultra variant offers an all-electric range of 331 km and a combined range of 1,551 km. Using Huawei's fast charging system, the EV can be charged from 20% to 80% in 15 minutes.
Luxeed R7 is a sleek, coupe-like SUV with a blend of futuristic appeal. The front features a smooth, closed grille design typically found in electric vehicles, along with slim LED headlights that extend to both sides. It features LED daytime running lights (DRLs) for a modern and dynamic touch. The side profile gets aerodynamic lines and a coupe-like roofline that slopes towards the rear. Chery has offered flush door handles and added chrome accents.

This coupe-like SUV has a drag coefficient of 0.247Cd, which maximizes its performance efficiency. On the rear, the EREV features a full-width LED light bar that complements its bodywork, giving it a high-tech appearance. To add to its sporty look, it gets a roof-mounted spoiler and an optional rear diffuser with a wing. The R7 measures 4,956 mm in length, 1,981 mm in width, and 1,634 mm in height. Additionally, it has a wheelbase of 2950 mm and a boot space of 796 liters.

Roomy and well-planned cabin space is designed to deliver unmatched comfort and practicality. It also offers all passengers a wider body profile and generous headroom and legroom. The standard 796-liter boot space provides enough space for luggage and weekend gear. Along with comfort, the automaker has focused on tech integration and premium touch. It comes with a 2+3 seating layout to accommodate five passengers. There is soft-touch upholstery and precise detailing for an upmarket feel. The seats have a zero-gravity concept and offer 18-way electric adjustment, 10-point massage, ventilation, and heating.
The rear passengers get ventilated and massaging seats, adding to the luxury experience. The interior is refined with ambient lighting, a quiet cabin environment, and a panoramic sunroof. Other convenient features include a 17-speaker audio system, an 8.2-liter fridge, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and tri-zone climate control. It features several safety measures, including Level 2 ADAS, seven airbags, a 192-line roof-mounted LiDAR system, 12 ultrasonic radars, 11 high-definition cameras, emergency lane keep assist, and automatic braking.
While the Luxeed R7 is launched in China, Chery could introduce this flagship model in the UAE, as the country consistently focuses on adopting electric vehicles to meet its sustainability goals. However, if it launches in the UAE, the R7 will have to compete with the BYD Song Plus, Nio EC6, and Tesla Model Y.
