Honda Recalls Over 1 Million Vehicles in US as Ford Recalls 548,000 SUVs Over Safety Concerns

Honda and Ford Issue Major US Recalls Affecting More Than 1.5 Million Vehicles

Key Highlights

  • Honda recalls more than 1 million vehicles in the United States over a tyre repair kit defect.
  • Ford recalls over 548,000 Expedition SUVs due to a centre console safety concern.
  • Dealers will inspect and repair affected vehicles free of charge.

Two major automakers, Honda and Ford, have announced large-scale recalls in the United States, affecting more than 1.5 million vehicles combined. The recalls were announced by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) after safety-related defects were identified in specific models.

Honda Recalls Over 1 Million Vehicles

Honda Motor America is recalling approximately 1,049,883 vehicles due to a defect linked to the tyre repair kit supplied with certain models.

According to the NHTSA, the issue involves a faulty tyre sealant bottle. Under certain conditions, pressure may build up inside the container, causing the cap to detach unexpectedly and potentially become a projectile. This could increase the risk of injury while using the tyre repair kit.

The recall affects selected versions of:

  • Honda Accord Hybrid
  • Honda CR-V Hybrid
  • Honda CR-V Fuel Cell EV

Honda dealers across the US will inspect affected vehicles and replace or repair the defective components at no cost to owners. Vehicle owners will be notified through official recall channels in the coming weeks.

Ford Recalls More Than 548,000 Expedition SUVs

Ford has also announced a significant recall involving 548,463 vehicles in the United States. The recall covers certain 2018 to 2024 Ford Expedition models.

The issue relates to the chrome-plated trim on the centre console. Over time, the chrome finish may bubble, crack, or peel, potentially creating sharp edges that could cause injuries to vehicle occupants.

According to the NHTSA, the defect may have originated during the manufacturing process, where a supplier reportedly used production parameters that did not fully meet Ford's specifications.

Ford dealerships will inspect affected vehicles and perform the necessary repairs free of charge. Owners of impacted Expeditions will receive notifications with instructions on how to schedule repairs.

Why These Recalls Matter

Vehicle recalls are issued when manufacturers identify defects that could affect safety, reliability, or regulatory compliance. While neither recall has been linked to widespread incidents, both Honda and Ford are taking proactive measures to address the concerns before they result in potential injuries.

The recalls also highlight the growing focus on product quality and safety oversight within the automotive industry, particularly as vehicles become increasingly complex and feature-rich.

Conclusion

Honda and Ford have launched major recall campaigns affecting more than 1.59 million vehicles across the United States. Honda's recall centres on a potentially dangerous tyre repair kit defect, while Ford's action addresses a centre console trim issue that could create sharp edges inside the cabin. Owners of affected vehicles are advised to respond promptly to recall notices and arrange the necessary repairs, which will be carried out free of charge through authorised dealerships.
