Ferrari has officially entered the electric vehicle era with the unveiling of the all-new “Luce,” the brand’s first-ever fully electric production car. Revealed in Rome, the luxury EV marks one of the biggest transformations in Ferrari’s history as the iconic Italian automaker moves beyond its legendary combustion engines.
The name “Luce,” which means “Light” in Italian, represents Ferrari’s attempt to combine high-performance driving with next-generation electric mobility. However, despite the excitement surrounding the launch, investors reacted cautiously, with Ferrari shares dropping more than 6% on the Milan stock exchange following the presentation.
The Ferrari Luce has been designed to deliver traditional Ferrari-level performance while embracing electric technology.
Despite weighing 2.26 tonnes, the Luce aims to maintain Ferrari’s signature driving dynamics and performance feel.
The fast-charging system can recharge the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 20 to 25 minutes, making it one of the faster-charging luxury EVs in its category.
The Luce is also one of Ferrari’s most unconventional vehicles ever.
Unlike Ferrari’s traditional two-seat sports cars, the Luce focuses more on luxury grand touring while still maintaining performance credentials.
Ferrari partnered with the LoveFrom design collective for the Luce project, led by Jony Ive and industrial designer Marc Newson.
The design combines futuristic styling with classic Ferrari cues, featuring:
The vehicle will be produced at Ferrari’s newly built factory in Maranello, Italy, with deliveries expected to begin later this year.
Despite the technological achievement, investors remain uncertain about Ferrari’s electric future.
Analysts believe the Luce’s extremely high price could limit sales volume, even though the model is expected to remain profitable due to its premium positioning and extensive customization options.
Ferrari had already reduced its long-term EV ambitions in late 2025, lowering its target for electric vehicles from 40% to 20% of total lineup sales by 2030. The move reflected slower-than-expected global EV demand and growing uncertainty in the luxury electric car segment.
Still, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna reportedly expects nearly half of Luce buyers to be completely new Ferrari customers.
The Ferrari Luce represents a historic turning point for one of the world’s most iconic sports car brands. By blending ultra-luxury, high performance, and electric mobility, Ferrari is attempting to redefine what an electric supercar can be.
However, the company faces a difficult challenge: convincing traditional Ferrari enthusiasts and investors that electric technology can deliver the same emotion, exclusivity, and excitement that made the brand legendary in the first place.
