Chevrolet, an American automobile manufacturer, has marked a groundbreaking record at Nürburgring as its latest generation of Corvette performance cars, including Corvette Z06, Corvette ZR1, and all-new Corvette ZR1X Electric, have collectively taken over the 12.9-mile Nordschleife circuit. Interestingly, it's the first time in history that Chevrolet relied on non-racecar drivers to record three lap times in a single visit. This recent achievement is not just a speed showcase for Chevrolet, but a demonstration of its engineering excellence, strategy, and driver development.

Chevrolet selected three of its engineers who helped in developing these powerful performance car models and have extensive experience and advanced driving credentials, helping them set record lap times for each model.
Drew Cattell, vehicle dynamic engineer for Corvette ZR1X, achieved an impressive 6:49.275 lap in an electrified AWD Corvette ZR1X. It was the fastest lap ever recorded by a non-race driver at this iconic race track.
On the other hand, Brian Wallace, the engineer for the ZR1 model, achieved second position with a lap time of 6:50.763 in his 1,064 hp Corvette ZR1. Corvette performance manager, Aaron Link, drove a 670-horsepower Corvette Z06 to record the lap time of 7:11.826.

Each of three models was US production-ready and was only modified for safety, including a roll hoop, containment race seat, fire extinguisher, and six-point harness, as needed to meet the Nürburgring guidelines. While these models are exclusively designed for on-road performance, they have marked incredible performance with record-breaking lap times.
With this recent track performance, Chevrolet now holds the title of manufacturing the fastest American sports car. The Corvette ZR1X and ZR1 both surpassed the ultra-exclusive Ford Mustang GTD's record to solidify GM's performance dominance. Importantly, the Corvette ZR1X is only behind the hypercars like Mercedes-AMG One and Porsche 911 GT2 RS Manthey in terms of racing performance and is available at a fraction of the price.
In terms of powertrain, the ZR1X comes mated with a twin-turbo V8 engine and electric motor that collectively produce 1,250 horsepower of power output and is paired with all wheel drive system for efficient ride and handling.
On the other hand, the Corvette ZR1 is equipped with a twin-turbo V8 engine, producing 1,064 horsepower, and the Corvette Z06 is powered by a naturally aspirated flat-plane V8 engine, delivering 670 horsepower. Both models, ZR1 and Z06, get a real wheel drive system, while there are Micheline Cup 2R tyres and carbon ceramic brakes in all three vehicles.
