[Careem's mobile cooling station helps delivery riders beat the UAE summer heat.]
Careem has announced the expansion of its Careem Captain Summer Initiative for 2026 in collaboration with the MAJRA National CSR Fund, extending support to delivery workers during the UAE's hottest months. Running from June to September, the programme is expected to assist more than 80,000 delivery workers across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Al Ain, marking its widest rollout to date.
The initiative is open to delivery riders regardless of the platform or employer they work for, reinforcing a broader effort to improve working conditions for those operating outdoors during extreme summer temperatures.
Compared with previous editions, this year's programme covers four cities over a four-month period. Careem has installed air-conditioned mobile rest areas in high-demand delivery locations, allowing riders to cool down, rest, and rehydrate during working hours.
To further address the challenges of the delivery workers summer heat UAE experiences each year, the initiative also provides free cold drinking water, fresh fruit juices, and ice cream at selected delivery hubs.
A major addition to the 2026 programme is complimentary health screenings delivered in partnership with the Pakistan Association Dubai (PAD). The on-ground medical checks are designed to help delivery workers monitor their wellbeing while continuing their daily operations during the summer season.
PepsiCo has also joined the programme as the Official Refreshment and Snack Partner, supplying beverages and snacks throughout the four-month campaign to support riders during their breaks.
Mudassir Sheikha, CEO and Co-founder of Careem, said delivery captains play an essential role in everyday life across the UAE. He thanked the MAJRA CSR fund for supporting the initiative and noted that the expansion to four cities, four months, and the addition of health screenings reflect Careem's continued commitment to rider welfare.
Sarah Shaw, CEO of MAJRA National CSR Fund, said the programme demonstrates the UAE's commitment to raising social responsibility standards. She described the initiative as the beginning of a broader movement and encouraged more private-sector organisations to participate in similar efforts.
Wael Ismail, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at PepsiCo MENAPAK, said the company is proud to contribute by providing refreshments and snacks, hoping they make rest breaks more comfortable during the warmer months.
The Careem captains UAE programme aligns with the company's broader mission of building the region's "Everything App." Since its launch in 2012, Careem says it has created earning opportunities for more than 3.5 million captains while serving over 75 million customers across the Middle East.
The expanded Careem Captain Summer Initiative highlights how collaboration between businesses and public-interest organisations can strengthen support for essential delivery workers. By combining cooling facilities, health services, hydration, and nutrition, the programme aims to improve wellbeing during one of the year's most challenging working seasons while encouraging wider corporate participation in employee welfare initiatives.
